Growing Old Gracefully

One thing about life is that we are constantly ageing. There is absolutely nothing that we can do about it. We can try to use products which make us look younger or we can take vitamins and supplements and spend hours at the gym but no matter what we do and how hard we try we are going to grow old. The one way that we can take control is to try to grow old gracefully. We should age like fine wine. We should grow in wisdom and grace and that wisdom and grace should be an example to the world around us. Have you ever noticed how most senior citizens seem to never be affected by negative situations or circumstances. It seems that every negative is nothing more than something minor that doesn’t even deserve a lot of thought. Older people just seem to be nicer. Maybe it’s because as we grow older life has a way of rubbing away every rough edge and making us smooth and pleasant. I have known people who were pretty rough but seemed to mellow out with age. I think that the people who show the most grace are the ones who have learned to accept the fact that ageing is inevitable and to flow with it. I have learned in my life that every day is a pleasure to be explored and enjoyed. We should make the most of this journey here on earth because it is so short and so precious. I am learning that our social status is pretty much insignificant as is just about everything else in life. It took me a long time to realize that our mission in life is to obey God and love people. Nothing else really matters. Once we leave this world we are gone for good and whatever we did in life is of very little consequence. If we were fortunate enough to accumulate a vast amount of money and material possessions we will only leave it behind for others to fight over. Our life here on earth is just a short whiff of time that quickly vanishes into ete ity. As a young child I always wanted to get older. I would wish that I were the age of some of my older cousins because I looked up to them. As I got older I took time and life for granted. Every day was a holiday to me. All I thought about were the pleasures of doing the wrong things all of the time. As a young man I tried to do some things but my heart wasn’t into it. I was single and had the attitude that I didn’t have to put up with anybodies bull. This was wrong because as long as you live you will have to put up with stuff. It may come from your spouse or your grandchildren but it will come. I’m sure that by the time most of us reach middle age we start to look back on the mistakes that we have made in life. We have all learned some bitter lessons by this time and they have served to shape us and motivate us in one way or another. Don’t be afraid to make bold moves and drastic changes if you have to. Don’t be so worried about what will happen if you fail. Sometimes we just get too wrapped up in the things of this life. Whatever the end result of the matter is you should be sure that you did all that you can do. After that there is nothing else to worry or think about. Now I have a better understanding of the first two commandments. Love God, and love your neighbor as yourself. If you can do these two things you have done exactly what you were required to do in life. The Good Life
