Cycling refers to the use of bicycles as a means of recreation, sport or transport. A cyclist is someone who rides on a cycle for any reason. Cyclists use either two wheeled bicycles, or other multi-wheeled cycles which are human powered. The introduction of bikes took place in the 19th century and has since then seen many developments since then. Actually, bicycles are a common means of transport in a variety of places. Cycling is both a cheap and healthy means of transport for both short and medium distances. Bicycles have the advantage of providing exercise to the cycler. Moreover, the bicycles use natural propelling energy and do not pollute the environment by either air or noise pollution. In both the short and long run, bicycles are less costly to maintain than most other means of transport. There are many cycling activities that are carried out throughout the globe today. Organized rides such as reliability trials, hill climbs and challenge rides are among the most common actualité cyclisme (cycling news) we hear about bikes. Recent developments have seen cyclists participate in all types of races using their bicycles. For instance, some race challenges involve several cyclists going through a variety of jungle routes in different terrains to show their expertise. With practice, various maneuvers can be made using bicycles. Experts are even capable of making acrobatic moves using normal bicycles. In the development of the racing technology, a variety of race bikes have been developed to fit racing needs. For instance, slim streamlined bikes have come up which are light enough not to tire the rider. Mountain biking, a sport that began around the 1979s originally used cruiser bikes and begun as a downhill sport. The current mountain bikes have geared suited for flat, downhill and uphill riding. The most popular bicycle sport is bicycle racing. When bikes were introduced, there was an independent development of competition in various parts of the world. The bicycles originally used were Boneshaker bicycles, which frequently brought injuries. A championnat cyclisme (cycling championship) is held at different places to come up with records and winners. Mile-a-minute Murphy is known for being the first person to ride is bike for one mile under one minute. Marcel Berthet set an hour record by riding for 49.992 km in an hour in 1993. Various other championships have taken place since then and have seen many people participate. In the recent past, mountain biking has ascended up to Olympic levels and other international championships.
