GRP door surrounds are being used more and more. Homeowners are waking up to the benefits of using GRP building products.
GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic, which as the name suggests is plastic that is reinforced with glass fibres. Years ago, this product was more commonly known as fibreglass. It is a material, which is used all over the world to make all kinds of things and has been in use for about 80 years. New plastics have been developed for use in this fantastic product and the mix of materials used have also evolved.
The Advantages of GRP Door Surrounds
GRP door surrounds look great. Because they are made in a factory setting, the finish on them is exceptional. They come in many different textures and finishes. If you want a door surround that looks like wood you can buy a GRP one. However, if you want one that looks like it is carved from stone you can buy one of those too.
GRP is a naturally waterproof material. It weathers well and is tolerant to a wide range of temperatures, so is used across the world in all climates. It comes in a huge range of colours and shades. GRP takes on colour well and although it fades over the years, it does so very slowly, so looks good for decades.
GRP is exceptionally easy to maintain. All it needs is the occasional wipe down. However, if you want to you can paint it to bring it up to date or make it look pristine again.
Where to Buy GRP Door Surrounds
You will not find much of a selection of GRP door surrounds on the High Street. A few of the bigger builder's merchants do sell them, but they usually only stock one or two styles. The best place to buy these door canopies is direct from the manufacturers.
Luckily, quite a few of the firms that make GRP door surrounds are happy to sell direct to the public and independent builders. If you look online, you will find those that do so have their own websites.
