We cannot help but think every single moment of our waking life. Unless we are seasoned meditators, wilfully trying not to think is practically impossible. So now we have these thousands of thoughts coming in and out of our awareness. Most of them seem to just ‘happen’, whilst others are more ‘directed’, as when we concentrate on a task.

It could appear that most of our thoughts are without much consequence or effect unless we specifically create them for the work at hand. But is it really so?

Each thought is impregnated with a very specific energy vibration, positive or negative, constructive or destructive. This energy is sent forth into the universe as we think the thought, and it will affect everything on its path, including people, the environment and circumstances, will add to the collective consciousness, before returning to its creator with added interest.

Knowing therefore that there are no ‘idle thoughts’ ever, or, as it says in A Course in Miracles, ‘ there are no neutral thoughts’, does it not become imperative that we do guard our thoughts very carefully, as each one is of the greatest import for the welfare of others and our own?

Should we not therefore strive to become much disciplined, so that we clothe every thought that we allow in our mind with the most powerful garments of love, goodwill and positivity?

Does it not become obvious that we bear great responsibility towards the whole of creation through the qualities of our thoughts? A negative mind churning out thousands of negative thoughts a day will attract into our experience a lot of conflict and difficulties and will subliminally repel others, who will, at a deep level, feel our darkness.

On the other hand, loving and happy thoughts, filled with goodwill and hope will help us experience a much more pleasant and easier life, one that seems to just flow, where laughter and happiness is ever at hand, from within ourselves and also directed at us from everyone we meet.

Not only do our thoughts create our experience, but they also on a much larger scale, create our entire world. Big natural disasters do not just ‘happen’. Yes, environmental factors play a big role in how they enfold, but at the base of it, it is all about energies being transmuted into physicality. And too many negative energies will manifest negatively in the environment as well, i.e. tornadoes, earthquakes and the like.

We are powerful byond measure and thoughts are literally things. Because we do not ‘see’ the effects of our thoughts with our physical eyes does not mean that the effects do not exist. They very much do. That is why it so very important to ‘guard’ our thoughts, to be very mindful of what we allow to float in our awareness, and to which thoughts we give life by dwelling on them. Lingering on good thoughts is a very positive activity but dwelling on any negative ones is very harmful in many ways. These should be denied life as soon as they peep round the corner in our awareness, by dismissing them immediately.

Guarding our thoughts is not an easy task though. It is so easy to allow our minds to churn over negative events or conversations we have experienced on that day, or even a minute ago, and sometimes even years before. But guarding and monitoring we must. It is necessary not only for the sake of the quality of our life, but also because we do affect others in a very tangible way, even if we do not see it ourselves.

By guarding our thoughts every moment, do we not feel better, knowing that we are contributing to an enhanced human experience at a personal and planetary level, and that thanks to our ‘thought discrimination’, we create much good around us and the world at large?

So I invite you to become a very fierce guardian of your thoughts. The opposite is not worth ‘thinking’ about!
