Guided Outback Tours When you make the decision to venture into the far reaches of the Australian wilderness you are faced with two options. Do I go it alone and self-drive? Long hours on roads you don't know can be intimidating and dangerous, not to mention the cost of wear and tear on your vehicle. You will also find that you are unable to access many regions. The second option that many people choose is to join a guided group tour. A great alternative because not only will you not have the hassle of driving yourself, you will have someone who knows the country providing answers to your questions. If you decide to go with the organized tour option, then there are a couple of points worth taking into consideration before you pay your deposit. Small group tours: When experiencing outback Australia for the first time, you will pass through vast regions of pristine wilderness. I am a strong believer that when you are in an environment like this, you want to feel as though you are the first person to discover it. You want to feel a bit more like Robinson Crusoe, rather than a large mass of people trampling their way through the scrub. The other advantage in selecting a small group tour is that you will almost have the knowledge of your guide all to yourself. And small group means less than 10, by the way. In fact, there are a number of advantages in going the small group tour option. Aside from the fact that you won't have buzzing queues of elbows at meal times and it wont take 20 minutes to load and unload the bus every time you stop to look at something. The best thing about travelling in a small group is you will be able to access places that a large group in a 40 seater coach or aeroplane, simply cannot get to. This opens up a wonderful array of boutique wilderness lodges and retreats in some of the most gobsmackinly picturesque and sacred regions of Australia: The Bush Camp at Faraway Bay on the isolated Kimberley Coastline, Max Davidson's Mount Borradaile Camp in the heart of a Sacred Site within Arnhem Land, Wild Bush Luxury's Sal Salis retreat nestled in the dunes that fringe Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia - to name just a few. People who operate small group tours always have their ear to the ground and will take you to places you never dreamed could have existed. Fully escorted tours: Another advantage of selecting a fully escorted, small group tour for your next holiday is that you really can sit back, relax and enjoy the journey. All of those day to day complexities of travel are taken care of. What time do we need to leave so we make it to the next destination on time? Do you have the confirmation for that cruise we are booked on? Where are we right now? Has the transfer from the airport been arranged? All of that isn't your concern, enjoy the holiday! Plus, if you are a single traveller, there is always someone to have a chat with over dinner or to offer a hand if needed. In conclusion, the Australian outback holds many well hidden treasures. In order to discover them my advice is to take the stress out of travel and join a guided outback tour. After all, it's always better when you experience a new place with a friend, just not too many of them!
