Half Way to 2008n Written by: Jayne L. Garrett, PCC

We think of milestones in our lives such as New Years Day, birthdays and other occasions that recognize an event or an accomplishment. In my mind all birthdays that end in 0 are milestones and reason for celebration! This time of year when students of all ages are graduating we are reminded of accomplishments whether the graduation is from college, high school, middle, elementary or even kindergarten. Recognizing and celebrating accomplishments early in life can be inspiring and motivating. I am personally more in favor of an acknowledgment of accomplishments through celebrating rather then rewarding. For me an accomplishment has more meaning when it is intrinsically driven versus solely motivated by an exte
al reward.

The month of June marks the halfway mark to 2008. For those who made resolutions or goals in January it is a good time to revisit them. For those who did not create formal goals at the beginning of the year now would be a good time to put in writing your intentions as to what you want to accomplish in the next six months. I am a believe
in sharing books that have been helpful. Chuck Coonradt author of The Game Of Work captures the importance of timely measurements to know exactly where you stand at all times in relation to your goals. If you are a sports enthusiast you will especially enjoy the analogies that Chuck uses to emphasize his points.

As you look at your life both personally and professionally I encourage you to ask yourself if you are on track to accomplish what would make 2007 a successful year for you? Carve out some quiet time and ask yourself what is the best use of your time to maximize results that will allow you to look back on December 31, 2007 and feel a sense of accomplishment as you look ahead to 2008.
