It can be tough to come up with good Halloween costume ideas. Recommending specific costumes is one way to go, but without knowing a person and their foibles and quirks and preferences and likes and dislikes, how can some stranger writing an article really recommend costumes for someone? They can't. Which is why articles like this are usually a waste of time.
Hopefully you will nonetheless be able to think up an innovative costume after reading this article. This article will avoid the typical practice of providing a laundry list of specific costume ideas. Rather, it will try to trigger your creativity via associations, so that your creative juices flow and you can come up with a great costume idea.
Here we go. Any of the items that follow may help you come up with a costume.
Ponder the color you like best. What costume could utilize it or emphasize it?
Is there a color you strongly dislike? Is there a dark or sinister or evil costume it might inspire?
Think of the actress or actor who's your most favorite. Now recall all the movies they've made. One of the characters they brought to life would probably make an interesting costume.
Villains can be a lot of fun to portray. Who are some of your favorite villains in the movies? And some real bad guys from history? Almost any bad guy can be a great costume, but you should probably avoid Hitler in this politically correct day and age, it is a costume that truly offends people. I have seen people dress up a Mussolini without stepping on toes.
You can always go as a pro athlete. Avoid divers though. Females might like some stud in a marble bag, but every guy at the party will want to shoot you. Right in the freaking marbles.
Anything prehistoric or Jurassic is a can't miss if you happen to be fit and beautiful. People who weren't fortunate enough to have been born beautiful, or are too lazy to stay fit, always love seeing some nubile D-cupped vixen wearing 14 square inches of fabric. And women love ogling Mr. 5% body fat's abs all night.
Think of a nefarious criminal. Go as him or her.
Literary characters make great costumes. What are your favorite books, and characters in them? Captain Ahab, Long John Silver, etc.
Don't forget fairy tales, Disney movies, and fables. They are another awesome wellspring of costume ideas.
Ex-Presidents are great for men. Who the hell is going to criticize Washington or Lincoln. Sometimes the crookedest Presidents are the best. Nixon and Clinton are a gas to go to a party as. You can be Clinton, grab girl's asses, and tell them you're just staying in character.
Think of something disgusting. A used tampon. A piece of shit. Go as that.
Interpret words literally. Make a costume out of them. A lawsuit, for example.
Foods can be awesome costumes. Just make sure you aren't a porker, or you'll get sliced and diced behind your back.
Costumes can be made from corporate logos. The fruit of the loom dudes are a great costume, for example.
Bands and musicians. The Village People, 20 guys all going to the same party dressed as Eminem, etc.
A few radicals like to get really wild and make changes to their appearance that don't go away immediately. They shave their heads, dye their hair, etc.
I hope you have some great Halloween costume ideas now.
