Bangkok as they say is an experience out of the ordinary and to make the most of it you need to keep certain things in mind that will save you from ruining your trip. Be it food, drinking water, transport you need to be careful at every step to avoid being misled and short-changed. Your travel agent may get you cheap flights and tickets to Bangkok but it is up to you what you make of your trip. These tips are not meant to scare you and neither are they intended to portray the city in a negative light. This write-up has been written primarily with a view to help tourists make the most of their holiday and avoid the pitfalls that might ruin their dream holiday. Beware of ‘Helpful’ Taxi and Tuk–Tuk Drivers As in all most countries, dangers lurk at every corner and it is best to hire taxis from designated taxi-stands only. Some taxi drivers might approach you offering help and they may turn out to be unscrupulous and might even take you from point A to point B via a longer route and then demand extra payment. You may also risk being robbed if they take you to an unknown destination. So, it’s best to keep a map with you at all times that will keep you in charge and in control of the situation. Stay clear of street food and tap water As a rule of thumb, western tourists should avoid eating street food in tropical countries where the humidity is high and chances of food getting spoilt in a short period of time are higher. Moreover the spicy fare that is dished out on road side stalls may not appeal to your palate that may be accustomed to continental food. Traffic jam Bangkok being a bustling cosmopolitan metropolis is the nerve centre of business and commerce so it is no surprise that you will encounter heavy traffic while going anywhere. Keeping a margin of an hour or so will help you reach your destination in time and save you from the hassles that arise by getting late. Dress Appropriately As a responsible tourist, you should try and adhere to the cultural mores being practiced in the country you intend to visit. Although Bangkok is truly an inte ational city and people are very tolerant but given the profusion of temples in the city, it is advisable not to wear skimpy or sleeveless clothing while entering temples as it may be considered inappropriate. We hope the above rules help you on your tour of Bangkok and definitely help you in making the most of your holiday.
