Talk about notable racehorses from the 19th century and Hindoo with his progeny, Hanover, won’t possibly elude the list. Hindoo lived a racing career that exhibited 35 racing starts with none finished out of money; Hanover following his sire’s footsteps placing 48 out of 50 career starts and winning an incredible first 17 starts. He was re-emergence of Hindoo that seemed more precocious and talented, both as a race horse and a sire. Hanover was also the leading sire on the American continent for four consecutive years (1885-1889), a feat re-accomplished not until 1965 when Bold Ruler topped previous siring records with his progeny of unparalleled thoroughbreds.rnHanover started on the racing track at the age of two and went straight winning 17 races back to back. He ran three stake races as a two year old, the Hopeful, July and Sapling stakes, all of which he won seamlessly against his peers in a period not more than three weeks. Hanover’s racing capabilities experienced real boost post a layoff that lasted till his re-launch the following year as a potential three year old. Hanover made his comeback win, fourth in a row with Withers Mile. His winning streak followed with Belmont Stakes and the Brooklyn Derby, these he won with a lead of 15 lengths. rnThe unfortunate fact behind Hanover’s racing career was the extremely short resting periods between races, a signature racing style of the Dwyer Brothers Stable that believed in heavy racing of the good horses. Within a span of four days post his Brooklyn Derby, Hanover was running the Swift Stakes which he also won by a remarkable 10 lengths. Tidal Stakes came next, he won it by 6 lengths and the again the two mile long Coney Island Derby right two days later b 10 lengths. It was a gruelling schedule that Hanover was maintaining without losing, with great leads. rnHanover’s uncompromised routine at three had probably worn him off that later resulted in a poor performance as a four year old. This season he displayed various losses, and almost never winning a race. Eventually a layoff was permitted and Hanover waiting until his five year old season to race again. In the fourth year of running, Hanover won 9 out of 17 races he started in and then retired. Hanover’s siring career was equally impressive with one with offspring like Hamburg and damsire of Sir Barton. American Horse of the Year for 1887 and leading sire for four years, Hanover was inducted to the Racing Hall of Fame in 1955 also becoming the greatest winner of his time. rnHe now can be raced on the online horse games from HorseRaceGame that also have more than 5000 more thoroughbreds to race.
