Happiness......it’s a choice
How many of us know a person a that is always down in the dumps, always complaining, and nothing ever seems to go right for them? Perhaps we knew them at one point in our lives and have since grown away from them. They were a great teacher for us, they were there for a reason. They may have brought us down at one point, but in essence they taught us about being positive.
No matter where we are in life, no matter what is going on, or who we are with, being unhappy is not about to make anything better. I happen to be one who believes that everything happens in our life not only on time, but for a reason, this holds true not only in the seemingly bad, but also in the seemingly good. It is only in the way that we look at it, think, and feel about it that we can actually shift it to a positive experience. It’s not easy, it’s simple, but it’s definitely not easy.
We tend to complicate our lives by getting caught up in the thoughts of what is going on, which drags us down a spiral stairway so quickly we don’t know what happened and how we got there again. The key word to that is “thought” because that is all it is, and when we really look at it and start to master things we realize we get to control those thoughts, we get to create them, and we get to chose them.
Even if I didn’t like the job I went to every day, I could still choose to be happy as a person, after all it wasn’t the job I disliked, it was the thoughts about the job. Like Wayne Dyer says so eloquently, “change your thoughts change you life”. In fact that was one of the first books that started to change my life. It has been proven to me time and time again that when I change my thoughts the things around me change. Going back to that job I disliked, I had to shift that energy and find something about it I could like, and there is always at least 1 thing we can find to like. When we put our minds to it, we will always find what we are looking for. Therefore we get to choose whether to look for the negative or the positive either way it will always show up.
There will always be negative people, I think, but that doesn’t mean we have to stay around them, or feed their seemingly troubled life by listening or validating what they say. Maybe when they find that there is no one to talk to or validate them they will start to see positive things, who knows. The point here is that we have a choice. We are ultimately always in control of our thoughts.
If at the very moment of awakening in the morning we put a positive thought into our head, that will multiply by attracting other positive thoughts. On the other hand if we choose to allow a negative thought to take control, it will continue to attract other negative thoughts. If a negative one jumps in we can always clear it away and change it to positive, if we don’t we will experience the negative all day long, until we chose to change it.
Positive affirmations are a great way to start your day, try just affirming to be happy today and see what happens, you may have to remind yourself through out the day, but make a conscious effort to choose happiness. Try repeating or humming or singing, I am Happy, I am Good, I am Happy I am Good and see how it shifts your energy. It works. It puts a spring in my step each time I choose it.
