My husband's parents are independent business owners who take advantage of a new technology called hosted PBX. I have come into contact with their hosted PBX service several times and I have always found it quite fascinating and definitely handy to have around. My mother-in-law liked to call her hosted PBX system her own virtual assistant. When I was first introduced to my in law's hosted PBX system, I didn't know it at the time but I was associating with some of the latest and greatest technology for small business owners. Once your business has experienced a hosted PBX service, you will never feel completely functioning without one again. A hosted PBX system has a plethora of features and has numerous services that any business would be lost without. One wonderful thing about my father-in-law's hosted PBX was the 1-800 number his business was assigned. As I'm sure you know, 1-800 numbers are free to call from anywhere in the world. For customers who still use old fashioned land line phone services, a toll free number is a great thing to offer. When a customer is given the choice between calling a long distance number and paying extra, or calling a toll free 1-800 number for free, nine times out of ten, that customer will choose the toll free number. And let's face it, a 1-800 telephone number gives your business automatic credibility in the minds of the public. Who wouldn't want that? You can thank your new hosted PBX system for locking in on this group of customers. My personal favorite of the features associated with my in-laws' hosted PBX system was the ability the virtual PBX systems had to handle numerous calls for numerous employees. My father-in-law had a small group of employees he was in charge of as well as a mentor he looked to for help and advice. All of these people were able to have their own personal mailbox through this virtual assistant known as hosted PBX. Customers (or employees) could dial one telephone number and reach the personal mailbox of any one person. No more memorizing dozens of numbers, my in law's small business VoIP was easily able to direct a call to whomever was needed. The hosted PBX system worked in a snap! Now my mother-in-law is a busy person and she still has teenagers at home which means she is always on the go, so she was really excited about the hosted PBX and its ability to "follow" her anywhere she went. One of the amazing features of a hosted PBX service is the call forwarding. When a customer calls your select 1-800 number, you, as the business owner, can have the hosted PBX system forward that call to any telephone (or telephones) you wish, be it an office phone, a home phone, or a cellular phone. My mother-in-law was able to answer business calls while driving her boys to soccer practice. And my father-in-law could take calls while taking his morning jog. I loved watching my in-laws work with their hosted PBX system and when my husband and I are ready to open our business, we plan on implementing a hosted PBX service as well.
