One in 20 human beings are being treated for diabetes according to Diabetes UK which also estimates up to half a million of us have the condition and don’t know it. Cases have increased significantly in the UK and experts attribute the rise to diet and obesity. Diabetes affects the body's ability to use blood sugar for energy. The main types include type 1- diabetes, type 2- diabetes and gestational diabetes. Diabetes symptoms may include increased thirst and urination, blurred vision and fatigue.
Type 2- diabetes, also known as type 2 diabetes mellitus, cannot always be identified on routine screening.
When type 2 diabetes symptoms show, these are the recognised symptoms: Consult your doctor should you have a concern.
• Excessive thirst and appetite
• Increased urination (sometimes as often as every hour), especially at night
• Unusual weight loss or gain
• Fatigue or extreme tirednessr
Other symptoms, not experienced by everyone, include:
• Blurred vision
• In women, frequent vaginal infections
• In men and women, yeast infections (thrush)
• Dry mouth
• Slow-healing sores or cuts
• Itching skin, especially in the groin or vaginal area.
Type 2 diabetes is caused by too much glucose in the blood and is strongly linked to obesity.
Whereas type 1 usually develops n children, whose bodies cannot make the hormone insulin, therefore do not have the capacity to covert glucose from food into energy. Unfortunately they need daily insulin injections.
In the UK nearly three million people have been diagnosed with diabetes, the vast majority type 2 and the signs are that numbers are rising around the world.
Type 2 diabetes can be cured and therefore is not a lifelong illness, previously thought by scientists. If you are obese the answer is to keep to an extreme low calorie diet for several months afterwards you should be monitored. If you revert to old habits then be under no illusions, the type 2 diabetes will return.
Although type 2 diabetes can be controlled by drugs and if necessary injections, if left unchecked will cause blindness, amputation of limbs, not to mention shortening your life.
The results of the Newcastle investigation, though the study was small, demonstrated that full recovery was possible, not through drugs but through diet.
A study which was funded by Diabetes U k noted that it was necessary for individuals to slash their food intake to 600 calories a day for a couple of months. Three months later seven out of the 11 were free of diabetes.
Obesity is gluttony in the extreme and is horrifying to watch these individuals eat their food.
We are all unique individuals, with different bone structure and body frame. But, unless caused by a medical condition some kind of deficiency, no- one should be fat, certainly not obese.
Life is for living, but in moderation, don’t shorten your life by being greedy and in turn pass this disgusting habit onto your children, for they do not know better. Lead by example and give yourself and your children hope. Get educated in, nutrition learn how exercise is fun for all the family.
