“Healing Cushing’s Syndrome Naturally”
Cushing’s Syndrome is the over production of cortisol by the adrenals glands and the resulting obesity, high blood pressure, fatigue, depression, muscle weakness, glucose intolerance, and more… are all part of the syndrome. But there is hope, here are a few great herbs and other processes that can heal Cushing’s Syndrome naturally.
Ginseng - Cushing’s Syndrome does not allow the body to respond to stress correctly and thus there are powerful changes that take place. Ginseng helps the body to respond to those stressful changes and because of that helps to bring the body back into balance with our natural environment by helping to lower cortisol levels and balance hormones. Ginseng is a powerful adaptogen that helps the body to find equilibrium. Take 1 - 400 msg capsule daily of either Siberian or Panx ginseng for 7 days… and then taking a 7 day break and then repeat.
QiGong - With Cushing’s it’s important that the issue of fatigue be addressed and because of that QiGong can be of great help. QiGong is ancient Chinese martial art that uses breathing, movement, and visualization to bring vital energy back into the body. Thus moving Qi energy through the meridians to give a person the ability to do whatever they need to do every day. Just practicing Qigong for 15 to 20 minutes daily can make all the difference in the world. Look in the yellow pages and on-line for a Qigong Master or practitioner who gives classes in your area.
Dandelion Root - Studies at the University of British Columbia show that dandelion root can help revitalize the restore normal function of the adrenals and balance cortisol production. Dandelion contains luteolin and luteolin-7-glucoside which can help restore normal adrenal function. Taking 1 - 500 msg capsule of dandelion root daily for 7 days and then taking a break for 10 days and returning to take the herb for another 7 days.
Chinese Wild Yam - Chinese wild yam has the ability to help balance hormones, and can work wonders for people with Cushing’s in certain instances. Personally I recommend going to a Chinese supermarket and buying fresh Chinese yam and eating it daily for a full week, and then taking a couple weeks off and then returning to eating the yam again later. Chinese yam can eaten raw as they do in China and Korea (it has a light crisp flavor) and it can also be cooked and used in soups, stews, and other dishes… food is the best way to heal the body whenever possible.
Burdock Root - Studies done with dogs with Cushing’s show that burdock root helps the adrenals to once again find balance, and burdock root can help stop the over production of cortical steroids. Taking 1 or 2 - 500 msg capsules of burdock root for 7 days and then taking a break for 10 days and returning to take the herb for another 7 days.
Milk Vetch - Milk vetch or astragalus root is grown and harvested in China and other places in the orient, and then ground into a fine powder. This herb has the ability to help balance hormones, and rejuvenate the liver and kidneys including the adrenal glands. Milk vetch can also lower cholesterol and triglycerides, boost immunity, and it has wonderful anti-fatigue effect which is very important for those suffering from Cushing’s disease. Take 1 - 500 msg capsule daily for 7 days and then take a 10 day break and then come back and take the herb again.
Ashwagandha Root - Ashwagandha root is a powerful adaptogen that helps with stress and can also help with Cushing’s disease. It’s relaxing, soothing, boost the immune system, helps with inflammation and balance hormones. Take 1 and up to 4 - 500 msg capsules daily for 7 days and then take a break of 7 days and then resume taking the herb.
Reduce Exposure to Electromagnetic Radiation - There are some indications that electromagnetic radiation from cell phones and high voltage towers and other sources can have a detrimental effect on our pituitary gland which controls our adrenal glands. So it’s very important for those who have Cushing’s disease to reduce their exposure to these types of radiation if at all possible.
Good Diet - Diet is extremely important for life in general and especially for those who suffer from Cushing’s. See my whole foods plant based diet, it’s vital that lots of raw foods be part of a healthy diet for those who have Cushing’s because those enzymes help balance all the endocrine producing glands. Thus a diet rich in green veggie juices is absolutely necessary. And removing caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco is also very important… plus all unnatural toxic chemicals. Walking - Walking, biking, and swimming will help the body harmonize and create balance within the meridians and the endocrine system. One should start out walking just a block and then start adding more and more distance until one reaches 5 miles a day. This is not done over night, it will take time, but walking is one of the best exercises for those who have lots of stress and need to relax.
Deep Breathing Exercise - Most people who have Cushing’s also have a long
history of holding their breath and not breathing deep. And this translates into more stress which makes the condition worse. So it’s very important that a person also take 20 minutes daily to do deep breathing exercises to start learning to breathe naturally using the diaphragm instead of chest breathing. Place your hands on your stomach and breathe—is your hand moving? If not that’s called chest breathing. It’s important to start breathing with the tummy moving in and out. Abdominal breathing is natural that’s what new born babies do… abdominal breathing helps us relax and create harmony.
Meditation - Meditation can reset everything in the body. We now know that meditation can turn off bad genes and turn on good genes and thus we can change everything. Taking a FREE 10 Day Vipassana Meditation Retreat is very important for those suffering from Cushing’s. Even the food and lodging is free thus all one has to do is show up. These retreats are given all over the world for free, and are put on by people who have taken the retreat in the past and know how powerful they can be for healing and creating peace.
