The lecturer walked into the amphitheatre, took his position behindnthe podium, and coughed once as the noise in the room subsided.

"Good morning - this is 'Health and Healing 101' - the basic coursenon offer for all you aspiring health practitioners," he intoned.

"Before we begin, put your hand up if you have NEVER cut you
finger, bruised some soft tissue or broken a bone."

One hand went up at the back of the room - the hand of anrecalcitrant young man who was apparently trying to impress thenyoung lady sitting beside him.

"Have you been living in a bubble?" quipped the instructor amidst ansnicker of laughter.

"We have all experienced small intrusions upon our bodies - this isnthe lot of living. However, is there anyone in the room that, afte
having had a cut, bruise or break, has not had the wound heal?"

No hand went up.

"Of course not" continued the teacher - "after proper hygiene andnadjustment - the body goes about repairing itself."

Pointing to the larrikin at the back of the room he asked - "Pleasensir, open your text to chapter one, page six, paragraph three andnread out loud to the rest of the class."

In a rather subdued voice the student began to read - "...and everyncell in the body has the capability of Response, Reproduction and
Repair."

"Quite so," interjected the smiling instructor - "the three 'R's"

"And if the body has this innate ability - this programming - this
DNA set of instructions - to heal itself - why are we taught tontake some form of medication to make the body do what it isndesigned to do?"

And so began the course - not necessarily in specific facts andnfigures - but a course designed to expand the thinking process ofneach and every student in the natural abilities of the body tonmaintain its integrity - to establish its harmony, balance andnhomeostasis.

It appears to 'thehealtheducator' that the simple truths of lifenare being bundled into a too hard basket - relegating us to andependency upon 'products for profit.'

As my mentor, Mr. K.S. Jaffrey often reminded me - we need tonretu
to the well often and refresh ourselves.

All the best for your health and happiness,
Kevin Hintonn
