Our physical and mental health play an important role in self growth. If we are not healthy we will not have the time or energy we need to put into other areas of our lives such as career growth or self improvement. Here are several ways to protect your health and therefore set yourself up to be your best self. Regular Physical Check Ups To stay healthy it is important to focus on preventative care which means going to see your health care professional on a regular basis. For example by going to all your annual check ups your doctor will be able to know what is standard for your body and therefore know when something is getting out of alignment. Often when diseases are caught early they can be corrected with lifestyle changes instead of having to rely on lots of drugs and invasive medical procedures. If you do not have health insurance or your health insurance is not giving you enough coverage it might be time to talk with a healthcare consulting firm who can help you choose a plan which is a better fit. Having a health care plan is vital to being able to grow as an individual. If you spend all your time worried about your health you will not be able to focus on those things which will take your life to the next level. Regular Mental Health Check Ups Once you have gotten into the habit of regular physical check ups it is time to turn to your mind. Up to 1 in 5 of us is suffering from mental health challenges at any given time but typically we do not think to do mental health check ups. This might look like simply recording how you are feeling each day so you can notice if there are patterns of anxiety or depression. This might look like keeping a gratitude journal. This might look like knowing when you are suffering and reaching out to others could be useful. For some family and friends are good people to process what you are experiencing with while for others a therapist can be a useful tool. The important thing is to keep tabs on your mental health so you know when you are struggling and know when you need to show yourself extra kindness. Like physical health check ups, mental health check ups help us identify when we have gotten a little off course so we can change directions before we get too lost on our jou eys. Regular Creativity and Awe A third area which plays an important role in our flourishing is creativity and awe. Studies have found creativity is good for businesses, good for communities, and good for individuals. So how can you incorporate more creativity in your life. Sometimes it can be as simple as getting some fresh air, doing some art, or doing a little dance in the privacy of your own home. In the end often the best way to incorporate creativity and awe is to simply give yourself space to rest from day to day tasks and challenges. So take that vacation you keep meaning to, even if it becomes a staycation. Go to the museum or concert you always wanted to enjoy, even if it is virtual. Write or draw or build or dance or play or color no matter how good or bad you think you are at the task. The key is to create spaces where creativity and awe can appear. If you want to grow into your best self you have to make time to focus on your physical and mental health as well as create spaces for creativity to flourish. If you are feeling lethargic or are struggling to find enough meaning in your life to want to get out of bed each morning you will find that you are unable to continue on your self growth journey. Take care of yourself so that your own physical or mental health does not hold you back from achieving your dreams for tomorrow. The sky's the limit when it comes to self growth and you want to make sure you are not clipping your wings before you reach the top.
