Most people cannot help but be pessimistic about long term care news because oftentimes these delve into the increasing costs of (LTC) facilities, shortage of skilled nurses and home health care providers, and premium hike of long term care insurance (LTCI) coverage.

Instead of serving as a light at the end of the tunnel, these LTC news just seemingly add up to the everyday worries of people. As a matter of fact, amidst the financial threats confronting them most individuals choose to get a fill of Hollywood stories and updates on their football team for these somehow take their minds away from disturbing reports about LTC.

If you’re a resident of a different country this may not seem a big deal but everybody in the United States, especially the ones who are currently receiving care and their families, get a regular fill of fear, uncertainty and depression from LTC news.

Perhaps a little good LTC news will change their perspective and encourage younger members of the working class to act on their retirement plans so that they won’t feel the same way about every LTC report that will come their way in the future.

When 2012 waltz in so did news about the increase in the tax deductions of long term care insurance (LTCI) policyholders. Premiums paid into tax qualified LTCI policies are treated as medical expenses according to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Code Section 213(d), and thus, these may be deducted from the income tax of LTCI policyholders.

Good Long Term Care News

Every year, the deductible of insured individuals with tax qualified LTCI policies increases according to their ages. The amount of each policyholder’s premium that will be treated as a deductible shall be limited to the eligible LTCI premium which corresponds to his age at the end of the tax year.

Based on the data which was published by the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance, LTCI policyholders who are younger than 40 years old had a deductible limit of $340 last year but this year they get a maximum deductible of $350. Those who fall in the 40 to 50 age bracket previously had a deductible limit of $640 but now it was raised to $660. Policyholders over 50 years old but younger than 60 can receive a deductible of $1,310 which is a step-up from $1,270, while the deductible of those who are 60 but younger than 70 will be $3,500 instead of $3,390. Now policyholders over 70 are the most blessed as their deductible limit had moved up from $4,240 to $4,370.

Aside from big tax deductions, LTC planners can also expect an increase in the number of professional LTC providers in all types of settings. This will ensure them and their families quality LTC services.

It definitely pays to have a well thought out LTC plan for this will serve as your passport to topnotch care and it will keep you from worrying about long term care news.
