In case of dental care heart patients need special attention as different heart diseases have their own kind of reactions which can increase their heart problem. Oral health is concerned with the inner health of our body as it is the first gate way for any kind of bacteria to enter in a body. Although normally we try to keep it clean but for heart patients rules are different. They can brush their teeth daily but with specific toothpaste with normal salt level. Similarly for any type of dental treatment there are some limitations related to procedures which are well known to every experienced dentist.
If you have a heart attack earlier then for the next six months you cannot have any kind of dental cure. It is quite necessary to inform your dentist about blood thinning drugs if you are taking them because these drugs can cause too much bleeding in case of surgery procedures or even normal tartar scaling. In addition consult with your dentist about the arrangements in case of any emergency such as oxygen and nitroglycerin availability. Oxygen cylinders are useful in case of any stroke or heart attack to maintain oxygen level in the body and nitroglycerin capsules are useful for curing angina pain within specific heart diseases. The main reason of angina pain is the blockage of blood flowing through the heart muscle. A nitroglycerin drug basically relaxes blood vessels in order to create ease for the blood to flow towards heart.
In case of high blood pressure there are drugs which can create mouth dry condition or reduces the capability of taste sense. As a result calcium channel will be blocked and it can originate gum swelling which overgrows it ultimately causing difficulties in chewing food. So in case of extra gum growth your dentist may guide you about oral hygiene in detail and suggest some mouthwashes and also instruct you to visit the clinic frequently to have proper cleaning procedure. If the swelling is more critical a surgery procedure is performed to eradicate the excess gum tissue called Gingivectomy.
In case of Angina chest pain there are more cases of extra gum growth as the calcium channel blockers are used to treat it. So in this case emergency requirements should be met as the availability of oxygen and nitroglycerin. But for stable angina for example if the chest pain happens in a known pattern then the dental treatment can be exercised but if not in a known pattern then some of the dental procedures should not be exercised and surgeries can be done in a hospital with emergency backup and cardiac activity monitoring.
Various dental schools are doing research on different heart diseases connectivity with oral health. There are many kinds of bacteria in our mouth some are for good and some are to create a resistance against the good ones. Recently a research is done in a school for dentistry of a medical university that there is a bacterium called Tigurinus reproduces itself in to colonies and can create clots in the blood that can harm the heart function greatly by causing minor strokes or heart attacks.
A medical college is the best place to do new research and most of the unknown diseases their connections to the oral cavity are usually found in college of dental sciences.
