Pyrosis, also known as Heartburn, is an very uncomfortable condition affecting a person's esophagus and is caused by gastric acid. You may also feel pain in the chest, jaw, throat or neck, and if not treated properly can cause chronic cough or asthma. Due to this, it is vital to consider one's suffering from heartburn as serious. You see your doctor when you can not sleep at night due to pain and burning in your chest, sometimes you choke, wheeze and have abdominal pain. Your doctor asks you questions, and states you don't have heart problems you have GERD, and then prescribes you something - or tells you to take antacids and departs the room. You're confused about what's going on! GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) widely known as heartburn. The burning sensation comes from stomach acid and bile in the esophagus. The symptoms listed are typical. At times heartburn is mistaken to be a moderate heart attack. This should not be taken light however; intense heartburn can be a symptom of real heart problems. Doctors may perform a series of tests which includes the Upper Gastrointestinal series. A barium solution is first consumed by the patient. This solution helps to determine if one is distressed by the esophageal reflux disease. After it is taken, multiple x-rays are performed. After proper medical testing, GERD (Gastro- Esophageal Reflux Disease) may be diagnosed. The biopsy test is another routinely used method, during which the doctor takes a small piece of esophageal tissue to test for the presence of cancer, swelling or any other flaws. Alternatively the doctor may examine the stomach and esophagus directly, using a small camera inserted through the mouth. This is known as an endoscopy. Once heartburn is officially diagnosed the next step is to try to find a cure for this condition. A helpful way to settle the symptoms caused by heartburn is to participate in physical activities. Being physically active helps the digestive system work more effectively. Those who take part in physical activities burn calories and fat more efficiently, this enables food to be more easily digested by the body. An additional solution that may help those suffering from heartburn is to drink a glass of milk. The calcium in milk can help settle the acid in the esophagus and stomach that adds up to the uneasiness of heartburn. Many heartburn victims calm themselves by drinking a cup of ginger tea. Antacids can be another good option, if you prefer, and there are many different brands out there to choose from. In either case, you will feel more comfortable as a result, by alleviating the uncomfortable symptoms of the heartburn. Taking proactive steps overall, is the best course of action to keep up. Try to avoid both spicy and acidic foods. These are two of the most common causes of heartburn. The diagnosis of heartburn is a disease and should be taken seriously. And now that you have knowledge about the various cures for heartburn, there is no reason why you can’t live a more healthy and soothing life.
