As a nimble and accessible way to traverse large stretches of land, the helicopter is the perfect vehicle for making journeys that need to vary between high speed travel and slow movements that allow the viewing or filming of beautiful scenery.
What is a helicopter
The helicopter is a rotary aircraft that stays airborne via the use of one or more engine driver rotors. This flight method allows the helicopter to take off and land vertically, meaning that it has high levels of convenience in many situations such as search and rescue missions and many similar applications.rnIn addition to take off and landing, the ability of the helicopter to hover for long periods of time mean that it is well suited to many applications that simply would not suit a fixed winged aircraft such as a aeroplane. While the designs for helicopters began production around 1936, full scale production was not achieved until 1942, with 131 being built.
Helicopter uses
It is now becoming increasingly common for people to have experienced air travel in the form of aeroplane travel, perhaps for a holiday or business meeting. However, it is still a relative rarity for people to have travelled via helicopter. This is mainly due to the obscure nature of most air travel journeys in a helicopter.
It is mostly common for a helicopter to be used in a sightseeing journey, such as taking an aerial tour of a city or over a picturesque space of land. These tours can often be purchased online or at tourist centres and can be perfect for a day out or an ideal way to see an area in a way you’ve never seen it before.
Another use for helicopter air travel is as a rescue service, such as an air ambulance. Air ambulances are used to access injured or ill people who are in areas that cannot be accessed by road or other traditional methods of transport. They are an essential aspect of the modern ambulance service in the UK and around the world.
Another use for helicopter flight is for the filming or photography of picturesque scenery or of wildlife, or even to get an aerial shot for a film. If you’ve ever seen a documentary or film where the shot is from a great distance or great height and moves in to a closer shot or even pans out further to track the object of interest, this shot will have been taken using a helicopter.
Due to their highly manoeuvrable nature helicopters are ideal for this purpose. In addition, their ability to hover means that a shot from about with little or no movement is also easily possible.
