Do you know that one in 700 children across the world is born with a cleft lip and palate? The situation is all the more worse in developing countries such as India and Pakistan where about 45,000 babies are born with a cleft lip every year. Very often, these kids find it difficult to eat, smile or even speak properly; life gets all the more harsh when they find themselves being bullied in schools; getting a job also becomes a distant dream for many of these kids. The irony, however, is that there are surgeries that can help these kids smile and speak like other normal kids, but, their parents can’t afford the costs involved in the surgery. Now, shouldn’t we help these kids lead a life with dignity? It’s kind of a responsibility on our shoulders and we all should do our bits; here are 3 simple ways through which we all can make a difference to the lives of these kids:

First and foremost, you can donate to a trusted Islamic charity trust; search through Google and you’ll find many in your region. Second way is to directly reach these kids, meet their parents and arrange for kids’ treatments. Remember that kid on the street who’s got a cleft lip! Third and last way is to spread awareness about this issue; hundreds of parents are still under the notion that nothing can be done to treat the issue; aware them about the surgical options available.

Here are the 3 ways in bullet points: 1. Look for a trusted Islamic charity trust and donate; it feels great when you contribute to a noble cause 2. If you already know one or more such kids, reach them directly and get them treated 3. The third way is not a one-shot-activity; it’s a continuous process; herein, you can take up the responsibility to spread awareness about the issue

Believe it or not, it feels great when you help a kid smile; it feels truly awesome when you do something like this. We all are busy in our lives, in our families; it’s perhaps the best thing that we can do to this world. The only thing that you need to ensure is that you are donating to a trusted Islamic charity or Islamic aid trust so that our money reaches the needy. Do this and the blessings of Allah will always be on you and your family.

TRT is a global Islamic charity working to transform the lives of children and young people from some of the poorest communities across the world. At TRT, we operate a 100% donation policy, where every penny donated goes directly to make a difference to the lives of children and young people. We have a separate fund to cover our UK administration, fundraising and marketing costs.
