Men over 40 need to watch out! After puberty and adolescence the next major changes in the prostate gland occur after the age of 40. By the time a man reaches his 60s, changes in the prostate may trigger discomforts in urinary flow and functions affecting sleeping habits and intimacy. Statistics show that men who suffer from an aging prostate are not isolated cases. Prostate health is the number one concern in men’s healthcare with more than 50 percent of American men in their 60s suffering from prostate-related discomforts. This figure rises to 90 percent for men in their 70s and 80s.

Many men don't take action until it is too late when prostate surgery is the only option left. But even surgery is not a permanent solution and involves a number of risk factors including impotence and incontinence.

Conventional methods for bettering prostate health involve the use of strong drugs. Alpha blockers are prescribed to help relax muscle fibers in the prostate and in the neck of the bladder and thus support urinary flow. Such medication may have side effects like retrograde ejaculation.

Medication, such as Proscar, may be given to shrink the prostate and reverse hormonal changes that lead to prostate aging. Such medications, called 5 alpha reductase inhibitors come with the possibility of serious side effects such as impotence, diminished sexual desire and retrograde ejaculation.

Surgery can be standard or minimally invasive but both have an element of risk and also have possible side effects such as impotence, retrograde ejaculation and/or incontinence.

The Better Option – Proactive Nutritional Care for Prostate Health

Proactive care of prostate health should begin at 40. Here are a few tips you should consider:
  • If you are overweight, you'll want to bring your weight down to a healthy level. Men who are overweight are more inclined to suffer from prostate health discomforts.
  • Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • In addition to these, consider taking nutritional supplements that protect prostate health and promote healthy urinary flow and functions.

Men who take proactive measures for prostate health may just be helping themselves to avoid prostate surgery and medications and their side effects later on in life. Prostate supplements have no known side effects and are definitely a better option for supporting prostate health.

Beta Sitosterol –the Big B

Look specifically for a nutrient called beta sitosterol in prostate supplements. Beta sitosterol is known as the star nutrient for prostate health. Other minerals for supporting prostate health include zinc, copper, manganese, iodine, molybdenum, chromium, selenium, Vitamin D, silicon, boron, vanadium, germanium-all of these minerals are essential for promoting prostate health.

Beta sitosterol is a phytosterol found in plants. Many research studies show beta sitosterol to have proven and positive benefits for supporting prostate health and alleviating many of its related urinary discomforts. If you suffer from sleepless nights due to prostate changes as you age, beta sitosterol may help you, according to clinical trials and extensive research studies.

You should include at least 250 mg of pure beta sitosterol in your diet for it to have a positive influence on prostate health. But since it would not be healthy to get this dosage through diet due to high calorific value, the best source would be through quality prostate supplements. A quality prostate supplement would ensure a pure extract of beta sitosterol. Super Beta Prostate contains 250 mg of pure beta sitosterol along with other sterols found in natural plants, minerals and vitamins.
