I uncovered many forgotten secrets about herbal home remedies through conversations with my grandmother. In my late afte
oon tea chats with her, I learnt that herbal remedies have been used for many thousand years to treat a variety of health conditions. However, many of the secrets about their use in terms of healing are lost because they are not documented. She revealed that I do not have to look too far to look for many of these herbs. There are already enough herbal home remedies that can come right out of my kitchen if I just make an effort to learn about them.

Since these conversations, I’ve gone on to make use of my knowledge about herbs and include them in my regular meals. Here is a couple of herbal home remedies, so that you too can derive the benefits from consuming them:

1.Garlic is a herbal remedy that I am sure you can find in your kitchen. While you may have used garlic to add a distinct taste to your food, it has a much more powerful use. Garlic is in fact, one of the best herbal home remedies around as it can be used as an antibiotic in your body. Garlic contains alliin, which is an antioxidant. When you crush or chop garlic cloves up, the alliin converts to allicin, which is an enzyme. These enzymes help to stimulate cellular activity required to ward off an infection.

2. You probably use the rosemary herb to flavor your meats. But do you know that rosemary also contains healing properties? Rosemary can be used as a stimulant and mild analgesic. It is also useful for those who suffer from frequent headaches and poor circulation.

3. A herbal remedy drink is cranberry juice. Cranberry helps in urinary tract infections because it stops bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder. This prevents bacteria from multiplying in your bladder.

4. If you are into Asian cooking, like I do, then you probably would have used lemongrass as an ingredient. According to folk lore, as told by my grandmother, it is often used because it has antibacterial, antifungal and fever reducing properties. A search on the web also revealed that in Brazil, lemongrass is a popular herb medication used in treating nervous disorders and stomach problems. People from the Amazon drink lemongrass tea as a form of sedative.

The lemongrass is also reportedly use for the following symptoms and conditions: stomach upsets, gas, bowel disorders and diarrhea, vomiting and fever, acne remedy as well as for pain relief. Try flavoring your tea with this herb the next time you have a queasy stomach and see if it helps!
