It was said ever so wisely that” Work is not man’s punishment; it is his (or her) reward, his (or her) strength and his (or her) pleasure.” Every line rings true to anyone earning, not just for a living but for sustenance itself. For all of us who are blessed a billion times over just to have received a decent amount of education as compared to so many people who haven’t, it’s a pity that we roll with the “earn, don’t feel; it’s just for fair-square meal” attitude. So, let’s face the music; labour movements fought this very day decades ago for their rights and for the acknowledgment of their work. And amidst all that were several others who worked for more than just their privileges, they strived to build a better tomorrow. They were employed for the world, bigger than their dreams but buildable with an open mind.rnThese days, with the kind of teaching and tutoring, advice and edification that we receive, its beyond pointless to state the obvious- We work so hard towards being that human who climbs all the way up that Maslow’s hierarchy of needs that we fail to see if the world is even catching up. And by logic, why should we in a world as self-centred as this? But then with a little rethinking, would humanity have reached this far if not for strenuous exertion and untouchable Emotional Quotient from a few of the past who saw tomorrow as if it were their present? We wouldn’t be where we are today if not for Thomas Edison, Abraham Bell, the Wright brothers and so many others who didn’t do what they did for the fame or for some fortune, but for a better future. Easier said than done but lending a helping hand to someone who can’t even afford the least that we have can go a long way.rnLevel #2- Safety needs_ where you worked hard enough for a promising pay checkrnYou’ve build your mansion, you’ve enough money and you’ve reached a steady momentum in life, what next? look out the window(metaphorically) and see the tragedy around you. Your society is still in the epitome of its suffering and the very most you could muster is a bit of concern. But if your heart tells you to do so, reach out to those who live in the streets in any way possible, give a little without wanting back. Go half a mile and see somebody bless you. Look out for the women and children as if they were your own. Watch your actions build a better nation.rnLevel #3- Love and belonging needs_ where you make big money and live a big life.rnDon’t let success cloud you because it will get cloudy up there. Some triumphs come to test us and see how well we can handle it. Share the joy and spread a smile. Some gestures can cost you nothing but mean everything to the receiving end. The actual moment of self-actualization is when your you’ve laboured for a living and you’ve lived the life in full.
