Owning a Magento store is one thing, and uploading products to it the right way is another. It does sound easy, no doubt. After all, you can simply login into the Magento Admin Panel, tap on Catalog, choose to Manage Categories from the drop-down menu that ensues, and go about creating one, but then, doing so, by no means, is the only step you need to follow. Merely creating a relevant category won’t let you upload your products in bulk or rewrite your URLs for that matter. On that note, did you know that if you change your product URL, as in, replace the default one, you could very well expect an increase in your page’s SEO rankings? Luckily for you, a Magento product data entry expert can come up with a rather SEO-friendly URL and save the day. Coming back to product upload as a whole, here’s what else goes into adding your products to a Magento store: 1. Managing product tags Customers are out there looking for the products they need but guess what, they may not come across yours, at least, not easily, if your products have the wrong tags assigned to them. So, you need to make sure that there’s no mismatch. 2. Managing the attributes All products have their unique attributes, and yours are of course no exception. That said, Magento product data entry would require you to create and update these attributes, and even key in the other quantifiable aspects if any. Right from color and shape to size, more or less everything that can help the customers develop a better understanding of your products, and make an informed choice. And yes, Magento does have a default set, one that includes name, price, description, and other attributes, but it goes without saying that you can’t always count on this set, especially not if you want your products to stand out. 3. Identifying the products rnSomething that you should ideally do before attempting data entry in the first place. That’s because a simple product may not be the same as a configurable one, and not to mention, might not fall into the same category as a virtual or downloadable product. Might we suggest that you identify the product type, and then get down to uploading the products? Or better still, get an expert on board. 4. Double checking the metadata A good title and description or the lack thereof could make all the difference. Make it a point to craft both of these in such a way that the customers feel inclined to click on your link. While the title should be as informative as the possible, the description, on the other hand, must include all of those keywords that the customers are likely to look for. Google may not treat meta keywords the way it used to, agree, but do keep in mind that there are other search engines that still do. Hire product description writers, if need be, but don’t let this one slip through the cracks. There’s more to Magento product upload than meets the eye - you’ll need to look beyond the obvious, and work on inventory management, reviews, image enhancement and what not - things that could shift the focus of your core activities.
