Hide and Seek

Proverbs 11:27 “If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!”

We are all familiar with the game we played as children where we would hide somewhere while we waited and hoped we could escape to home base before the seeker found us. Some of us had really good hiding places where no one could find us and we would get home safely every time. Others of us would hide in places where we could be seen and found quickly.

Playing hide and seek is not just for children. Well, not in the sense of the traditional game but in the sense of looking for opportunities or blessings which may be hard to find at first, but rewarding if we put effort in the process. Everything we do has a hidden blessing. There is something good in all things. We just have to seek out what may be hiding behind the obvious.

We are told to search for good rather than evil. When we look for the good things and do the things we should do, we will find God. God will be with us as we go through the struggles we have. If we turn to anyone or anything else when we have challenges we can’t seem to bear, we will just make our problems worse. God is ready to help. All we have to do is seek Him out in all we do.

There are times when we try to hide what we have done from others. When we do something we shouldn’t, we try to put things behind us so no one will find out. We may succeed for a while, but God knows all we do. We can’t hide from Him in any way, shape or form. God knows where we are at all times, what we have done and, most importantly, what is in our hearts.

Psalm 139:12 “but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.”

Knowing how to play hide and seek as a man and woman of God will help our burdens to be more bearable. Knowing how to look for hidden blessings and seek out God’s will in all we do will help us put the focus on Him and others rather than ourselves. Playing hide and seek is not about us. It is about how we can look for opportunities to help others and bring out the good in everything and everyone.

When we seek out the good in others and in all situations, God will create a blessing in our lives. He will take our talents and allow His work to flow through us. However, when we take a situation we can’t seem to handle and try to hide it or put it out of our minds, we aren’t doing anyone any good. Our purpose is to handle the things God puts before us, both good and bad, in His way so we can make a difference.
