For many people, it might appear to be out of their price range to hire a limo service to drive them to an event. However, because there is so much competition between companies, you can get a better bargain than you’d expect. Keep in mind, though, in order to get that rock-bottom price, you need to know how to go about hiring a limo.

First, consider your budget. If you are going to rent a basic limousine that will seat between four and six people, you can expect to spend between $40 and $80 each hour. If you want to rent a stretch limo, which seats between six and eight people will cost between $60 and $100 each hour. Typically, you will have to rent the vehicle for a minimum number of hours, which usually varies between four and five hours. This is a place where you can save money, though, as many companies are willing to negotiate this point. If you intend to rent a specialty limo like a Hummer, super-stretch or Mercedes, all of which can seat up to 22 people, you are going to spend as much as $3,000 for one evening.

Next, do your research. You will want a company that is licensed and insured and that has been in business for a number of years. Determine which kind of limo you want, how long you want it for and how far you are going to travel. Make a list of the features you want to include in your package. These features might include a bar, television, gaming system, DVD player, sunroof, stereo or hot tub. Remember that every feature you choose will run your bill hire.

Be sure that you ask specific questions of any limo company you are considering. Find out how old the vehicle you are renting is and what features are included in the package price. The initial deposit you make with the company should be refundable in the event that the limo does not meet your expectations. This is critical because some companies will advertise one limo and show up with something else. You should also find out who your driver will be and what is driving record looks like. If you can, provide the driver with your itinerary for the night beforehand so he is familiar with all the locations you are going to go. Also ask if the tip is included in the rate, since you are going to be expected to tip him at the end of the night even if it is included in the package. For this reason, always request that the tip be separated from the package if possible.
