There are legends who have spoken about three saints, who martyred just for the sake of love. It could be a coincidence that the three men gave away on the same day, which was 14h of February. It is of utmost importance that Pope Gelasius declared the feast of Saint Valentine in 496 AD. In 1969, the feast had been removed since the stories revolving around it were based on legendary characters. To understand what happened, let us peep inside some of the relative information. For this we need to travel back into the 3rd century during the reign of Emperor Claudius II which was a period when love could not blossom at any cost. Love was termed as crime and young soldiers had been barred from tying a conjugal knot. The only hope for the lovers was left with the Roman Saint Valentine, who was a priest, who had though been commanded not help couples get married but once while helping a couple, he was caught. He had been imprisoned, tortured and then at last was put to death. It is believed that during his term in jail he turned to Christianity and while his stay there he even showed path to many to take up the teachings mentioned of showering love and gratitude upon each other.

It was rumored that the Saint had fallen in love with the jailor’s daughter and sent a letter to her in secret with his initials at the bottom. He spread everywhere the message of love and also he contained special powers to perform miracles like healing. The foremost well-known romantic celebration in history of this day was in Geoffrey Chaucer’s Parliament in the year 1382. In the United States of America, this day was more of a celebration belonging to the settlers from Britain and with mass production of cards, the day gained popularity all through. In today’s time, it is not only in few parts but almost all over the world that people celebrate Valentine’s Day in numerous and innovative ways.
