History of CBSE Board

A well run, well maintained education department or education board holds the key to a smoothly run society free from corruption and chaos. One such example is the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The board examinations in India can be referred to as the pivotal examinations in determining the future of a student. These are conducted at the end of the 9th to 10th grade education (SSC), or at the end of the 11th to 12th grade education (HSC). These exams are conducted on a national level by the CBSE. The syllabus and the question papers set for these exams are of the highest level, which test the academic intelligence as well as general awareness of the students. The first board under the CBSE was set up in 1921, The UP Board of High School and Intermediate Education. Since then, it has been evolving and improving under a well maintained, well built organizational structure. A self financing body, CBSE has 8979 schools under its jurisdiction as on 31-03-2007 including 141 schools in 21 countries. In order to execute its functions effectively Regional Offices have been set up by the Board in different parts of the country to be more responsive to the affiliated schools. The syllabus and curriculum of the exams conducted by the CBSE focuses upon academic intelligence of the student as well as his/her general awareness. It more or less covers the entire perspective of ‘knowledge’ needed to be acquired by a student at his specific level of education. Students studying under the board can be benefited by solving previous year question papers available throughout the board’s regional head quarters and offices set up all over India. These measures taken up by the board, like helping students by providing previous year question papers, devising a syllabus that is feasible for all etc., are helping in improving the board exams results in a great deal.
