History Of The World Famous Disney Character Mickey
“I can make you laugh and make you cry.… I was conceptualized by a western thinker on a table, while my story board was being framed… I reside in everyone’s heart and precisely in every child’s… My birthday falls on November 18, 1982… I have one very good friend and that’s a dog… I also have a girl friend and we've enjoyed many adventures together… I am popular with everyone, but more with the kids… A smile matters to me, and I work hard at making people all over the world smile. For many decades, I have been the prime source of entertainment for children… I am only a tiny mouse and the world knows me as “Mickey".
It is probably most difficult task to find anyone in this world who isn’t aware of Walt Disney character Mickey Mouse. In the early part of the 20th century, the famous character of Mickey Mouse was conceptualized. In the initial days, Mickey appeared in the silent movies. It was in the end part of 1928, when Mickey appeared with a voice over. Ub Iwerks was the creator of this character. Iwerks created many characters that include dogs, frogs, horses, cows and cat. But ultimately he finished up with a mouse. In one of his statements to the press, Iwerks said that he visualized Mickey with the spirit of Charlie Chaplin.
The character is of a rambunctious rodent who got famous just within a few months only. Mickey can be called the brand ambassador of Walt Disney today. This character had marked a new beginning in the in the animation making industry. The popularity of Mickey also made him appear in comic books, video games, films and short TV serials. Walt Disney and Jim Macdonald also voiced for the mouse in many of its appearances. Today, Wayne Allwine gives voice for this rambunctious rodent.
Throughout many decades, Mickey continues to grow in a rapid pace. In the year 1935, he first time appeared in colors. Most of the film studios at that period continued to produce silent animation films when Disney took the lead and never looked back. If we look into the earlier Disney characters, we can definitely find a close resemblance of Mickey Mouse with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. This sympathetic mouse was first named ‘Mortimer’. But the wife of Walt Disney, Lillian Disney, suggested to her husband that the name was too stuffy. So Disney gave a second thought and came up with a new name ‘Mickey’. Soon after his introduction to the local market.
Mickey Mouse became famous beyond all expectations, to the point where people coming to the theater first asked if they were going to "run a Mickey" before they would consider buying admission. Walt Disney produced 87 cartoon shorts during the 1930s in which Mickey Mouse was employed as everything from a giant killer, to a cowboy, to a detective to an inventor. Mickey Mouse remains a popular and well-appreciated character who served a valuable purpose by bringing generations of children and adults through the difficult times of the Depression, the War Years, and into the New Millennium.
