Shimla has been planted deep within my memorabilia. I immediately felt in love with this lovely hill station, when I first visited here during my summer vacations five years ago. After that wonderful interaction, I have been in Shimla thrice and every time I visit there, this amazing place stuns me with same intensity, or may be with higher, that I did during our first meet.
Shimla is undoubtedly one of my beloved holiday spots, owing to its heart-throbbing scenic beauty and remarkable Victorian architecture. Before I start writing about this pristine land, let me give you a basic idea of it. The capital city of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla is a popular hill station in North India, and is a favorite holiday-retreat during summer months. The town has a population around 145,000 with most of its residents being from local Pahadi community, Punjab and Sindh. Common languages spoken in Shimla are Punjabi, Pahadi, Hindi and English (mostly used for tourists).
Impressed by its majestic location and cool climatic conditions, the British designated Shimla as the summer capital of India. Most of the buildings in the town are built in Victorian style, depicting the influence of British on the city, while the banned traffic to the city’s historical center means that environment here is calm and unpolluted. This lovely hill station is located 370km from New Delhi, and is accessible both by road and railways. The nearest broad head gauge is at Kalka. After that, it starts the wonderful journey by mountain train from Kalka to Shimla. This incredible railway trek is World Heritage Site designated by UNESCO and passes through breathtaking scenic vistas and amazing 104 tunnels. The best time to visit Shimla is the summer or the winter months. It’s advisable not to plan your Shimla holiday in rainy season, as there are a lot of landslides on the way.
There are lots of things to do and see while being in Shimla. Wonderful scenery and breathtaking views of surrounding areas from Jakhoo Hill leave its mark on every visitor. Chadwick Falls, 7km from Shimla, is another picturesque location visiting there will be an unforgettable experience. For shopping, dining and entertainment, the Mall is the best place to visit on. This vibrant tourist place is dotted with a myriad of restaurants, shopping arcades, clubs and bars, and gives the travelers a feel of exoticism. Also, there locates Shimla’s most popular theatre ‘Gaiety Theatre’. If you wish to explore mesmeric architecture of Shimla, don’t miss to visit the beautiful Vice-regal Lodge, Christ Church and the Dorje Drag Monastery. Other than that, superb traditions and cultures Shimla lives with are also delightful to explore.
Shimla hotels are unarguably superb offering the guests a great accommodation with all modern amenities and alluring hospitality. They are available in varied categories, and cater the tourists of all profiles. Simply, holiday in Shimla is remarkable and the one you will cherish forever. Take a suitable holiday package, and discover this majestic land with no hassle.
