Many people don't think about it until too late, but home health care is something that you should consider before hospitals or nursing homes become your only option. Realistically, wouldn't you want your children to keep you around after you are unable to take care of yourself, in the comfort of your own home?
Just in case you haven't heard of it before, home health care is when trained professionals come to your home with all of the required medical equipment, rather than you having to go to a hospital or somewhere that there are far more resources than you actually need for your specific case. It's an option, anyway.
If you're wondering what to expect from home health care, the staff will take care of a variety of activities, including things like occupational therapy, nutritional therapy, patient and caregiver information, and handle specialized things like medication, IV therapy, and other things that the typical person in a house wouldn't know how to handle.
Many, if not most, medical agencies have some sort of home health care options available. From small neighborhood clinics to huge corporate entities, there are almost always options available to have care come to you, as it can work out better for the other company as well conce
ing resources and space available. Hospitals can get full, too.
Some of the other things that a home health card professional will take care of are things like eating and drinking habits, the amount a sleep a patient or client is getting, and basic checks on things like heart rate, blood pressure, amount of perceived pain, and whether they are having trouble breathing. Better at home than at a hospital, right?
One of the first things that you should discuss is the plan of care. That is a document that details all of the daily, short term, and long term aspects of the care, from who is going to take care of what, to the types of medical equipment that needs to be on hand, to deciding which treatments are going to take how long and when results should be seen.
Staff should always be determined to improve their service as well. If you have noticed that your home health care provided has become lazy or does not take as much interest in the client as they should, you should immediately start shopping around for a better place to hire from. Improvement is always the key.
If nursing homes or hospitals don't sound like options you would approve of, consider home health care to be a viable choice. Let the senior citizens in your life retire comfortably in their own homes, and they won't leave you with that feeling of guilt that occasionally comes from lack of commitment.
