Dark circles under eyes are a common beauty problem. These under eye dark circles give us an appearance of tiredness or illness. They make us to feel worse and are rather detrimental to our self esteem. The skin below our eyes is very thin and is sparsely dotted with oil glands unlike the skin on rest of the body. Due to various reasons the skin under the eyes becomes thin and dry. Veins below eyes appear prominently when the under eye skin becomes dry and thin. This lends the area a dark appearance.

Causes of Dark Circles:

1] Heredity: Like many skin conditions, dark circles under the eyes are often an inherited trait. It is very common for family members to have similar dark circles.

2] Exposure to sunlight: The sun causes pigmentation to be drawn to the surface of the skin. This is true in darker or lighter skinned people.

3] Itchy eyes: Any condition, such as eczema, asthma or allergies that causes the eyes to itch contributes to dark circles under the eyes.

4] Nutrition: A diet not containing important nutrients, or a diet that is not properly balanced, can contribute to black circles around and under the eyes.

5] Medicine: Many medications cause an increase in blood flows. This can cause the blood vessels under the eyes to dilate, giving the appearance of circles.

6] Pregnancy and Menstruation: Many women’s skin becomes very pale during menstruation and pregnancy. This allows the veins under the eyes to be more visible, and darker looking.

7] Age: People with a predisposition to have dark circles under you eyes, will find that as they grow older, the circles will become more evident and permanent.

8] Not enough sleep: Not getting enough sleep can cause the skin to become pale. This allows the blood under the skin to be much more visible under the eyes.

Treatment of Dark Circles:

1. Try to avoid the caffeine, because they promotes water retention and lead to the dryness of the eye.

2. Apply concealer to the darkened areas. If the circles under your eyes tend to be very purple, use concealer with a yellowish tone.

3. Grapeseed oil is an antioxidant that has been found effective for reducing eyestrain.

4. Eat a green leaf vegetables daily.

5. Ascorbic acid, that contains bioflavinoids is very effective to keep healthy eyes.

6. Cold Tea bags and Cucumbers: For a truly natural remedy use cold tea bags and cucumbers! There is definitely is something soothing with having cucumbers and tea bags on top of your eyes.

7. Avoiding use of bleach or peels to make the dark circles around eyes light.

8. Treat the cause of illness mentioned above.

9. Avoid sweets and chocolates.

10. Keep thin cold cucumber slices on eyes when your eyes are too tiered.

11. Apply a paste of lemon juice, tomato puree, orange lentil flour (masoor dal ) and turmeric powder (if you are not allergic to it) on under eye dark circles. Leave it for 15 minutes and wash it off.

12. Drink plenty of water (more than 15 glasses)
