The number of people admitted in Hospitals of India is increasing every year owing to the rapid increase in the number of accident cases and various diseases that are to be seen in the population. Curbing death has become a major issue that is being faced these days. Back in the year 2000, the average death rate in the country was at 8.88 deaths per 1000. But by the year 2011, the advancements in the medical technologies and the superior health services provided by the hospitals throughout the country have resulted in a silver lining on the vast looming gray cloud, dropping it to 7.48 per 1000.

In the past decade, Medical Tourism India has risen up as an industry of its own. As more and more people are turning to medicine everyday for even the smallest of illnesses, the rates of treatment world-wide are skyrocketing each day. This is forcing the people to think of alternatives so as to meet their treatment needs. Indian rates of medical treatment have not yet reached the global standards and even now are at least 50-60% cheaper than that in the United States. Hence more and more tourists from US end up visiting India in pursuit of cheaper good quality medical relief. With the source of income that the medical tourism in India is providing, the majority of the public hospitals can be upgraded to world-class standards.

The discussion on the Hospitals of India is incomplete without a mention of the leading hospitals of the nation. The top of the list is undoubtedly occupied by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. The other hospitals that follow the lead are the Apollo Hospitals chain in Delhi and Chennai. These are closely followed by NIMHANS, Bangalore and Christian Medical College, Vellore. Few other top-tier hospitals in India are Post Graduate Institute, Chandigarh, TATA Memorial Hospital, and Lilavati Hospital, both in Mumbai, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai and Bombay Hospital, Mumbai. All these hospitals are known for their world class infrastructures and extremely trained and skilled doctors, health-care professionals and 5-star hospitality services.
