The entire scientific community called him a head-case and tried to shut him up.
He could not prove his theories for ten-years, but shouted his conclusions at his medical colleagues as if he had the evidence in hand.
Dr. Hans Berger, German neuropsychiatrist and professor at the University of Jena, created the first human EEG (Electroencephalograph) for measuring electrical brain activity. In 1924 he had the first evidence of brain vibrational frequencies, but had to wait until 1929 to have the technology to prove it.
It was American genius Philo Taylor Farnsworth who provided the cold CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Berger needed. This same guy created Radar, the first Electronic Microscope and Black Light to see at night. He is also responsible for TV and computer monitors before the flat screen. You might want to remember Farnsworth’s name.
Professor Berger proved when we think, relax, consciously act, and sleep, our brain produces different measurable electrical cycles per second.
He named them Alpha, Beta, Delta and Theta Hz (Hertz). Hertz measures brainwaves in cycles per second; it is based on the frequency of specific vibrations measured with Berger’s EEG.
So what?
It was the first research tool for neuroscientists to discover the secrets ofnour brain without opening up our 3-pound (1.4 Kilograms) coconut.
Berger suicided in 1941 after the Nazis had removed him from the University of Jena because of his birth background. This is code for labeling his Jewishness grounds for dismissal and marginalizing his scientific work.
He is the Father of the Electroencephalograph (EEG) and NeuroFeedBack imaging. n
Open Mind
If you want students to ace their SATs, and slam-dunk their courses; executives to improve their personal productivity up to 38%, listen up.
Researchers from the University of London and the University of Vienna authored a study on problem-solving. It appeared January 2008 published by the jou
al PloS One. Want to know how to ace problem solving, tests and creativity?
Alpha (CPS – Cycles Per Second)
The harder you focus on the exam or problem-solving, the worse you do. Mental-blocks occur when you focus your attention wholly on the answer. When your brain concentrates all its efforts on the solving process, the vibrational frequencies, cycles per second move into gamma Hz.
For Brilliant Stars Only:
1. Beta Cycles Per Second registers at 12-19 Hz on the EEG.
Beta is conscious waking until sleep. It is what constitutesnyour cognitive mind and personality.
2. Alpha CPS registers at 8-12 Hz (10 is great) on the EEG.
It is alert relaxation and kicks-in 10 seconds after you relaxnand close your eyes.
3. Theta CPS registers at 4-8 Hz on the EEG. It appears thenseat of creativity and inventiveness for scientists, writers, nartists and plain-folks who are in the Zone, in the Flow.
4. Delta CPS registers at 0.5-2 Hz on the EEG. It functionsnduring sleep and dreaming – two separate states.
5. Gamma CPS registers at 26-70 Hz on the EEG. It functionsnfor deep meditators like Tibetan monks. They claim it occursnwhen focusing on love and empathy and improves the functionnand structure of our mind and body.
Double So what
Turning back to the research from Universities of London and Vienna, when you switch mental gears from Beta to Alpha, by having an ‘open-mind’ while problem solving, you most often discover the correct solution.
How do you switch from Beta (or Gamma) to Alpha Hz?
Take three (3) deep (diaphragmatic) breaths and close your eyes. Relaxnfor 10 seconds and you are in Alpha CPS.
There are measurable EEG brain changes (Cycles Per Second) when you release Beta or Gamma and choose to open your eyes and remain functioning in Alpha Hz. You change your brain’s vibrations and your mind’s frequency ofnthose vibrations. These electrical cycles per second are your vibrational frequencies.
It is ‘volitional’ (voluntary) to move from being stuck (blocked) in problem-solving,nto accessing your knowledge. All you got to do is change your vibes. Once you switch moods – your orbito-frontal cortex kicks-in and you access your memory and learning and problem-solving skills.
Gamma
The higher your Gamma brain rhythm on the EEG the worse your mental block, nand ability to problem-solve. Gamma is the mother of focused-attention, andntoo much focused-attention and you jam-up your cerebral cortex structures.
It is however Gamma CPS that predicts if a hint you get to solve the problemnwill lead to the correct solution. Alpha Hz is a less-attentive, but your spontaneousnrelaxed brain-state facilitates discovering the correct answer. Don’t sweat it.
Dr. Bhaattacharya, lead researcher said in essence, “Excessive-Attention createsna mental fixation causing the brain to be less receptive to problem-solving. It isnbest to tackle the challenges you face with an “open mind” leading to Alpha CPS,nthan Beta or Gamma brain rhythms.”
Two Questions to Personal Success
We did not invent asking yourself these two-questions, but our research indicatesnthey are life-changing and lead to success.
1. Q. What is my Core burning desire to acquire, not in my life presently?
Examples: a mansion in Malibu, $1,000,000 in the bank, purpose andnmeaning in my life, or maybe luv.
2. Q. If I already had my burning desire fulfilled, what would I ownnthat is not in my life presently?
Examples: Safety and security, peace of mind, luv and companionship, nand maybe self-esteem and self-efficacy.
Google: Abraham Maslow and his Hierarchy of Values.
You will feel a visceral (emotional) reaction when you discover your missing Core n Need, your real burning-desire. Now you will know what to search for to given meaning and purpose to your life. Know that answer and you improve everything.
In our opinion the secret to success in your career is not your intelligence; geniusesnand certified Mensa folks are often followers and have difficulty using their brainsnfor practical purposes. Nor is it emotional or social intelligence, they are exte
al.
Success in your career and in relationships is directly attributable to perseverancen< Latin to persist. What is your level ‘quit’? How much will you persevere beforenyou give it up for lost?
Did you quit while learning to drive your car – ride a bike, surf the Internet, or master Word-Processing because it was hard?
You took your mistakes and learned from them – they were just feedback notna reflection of your personal worth. You persisted until you mastered these skillsnbecause they were Core (burning-desires), right? So persist until you win or lose.
See ya. Oh yeah, if you want to read-and-remember three (3) books, articles andnreports in the time your peers can hardly finish one – ask us how.nncopyright © 2008 H. Bernard Wechsler www.speedlea
