A cardiologist is someone in the medical field who provides you the facility of health care to with heart disorders. They will diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases and many will perform both minor and major surgeries. Though, this challenging carries a lot of responsibility.

What is cardiology?

Cardiology is branch of medicine that deals with heart disorder. Doctors who are specialized in cardiology are called as heart specialist or cardiologist. Cardiologists treat heart diseases like congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, etc. Some cardiac problems require higher medical diagnosis and treatments, which are given in well-equipped cardiac clinics.

Disorders and conditions:

Cardiologists treat all kinds of cardiac diseases. Cardiac diseases include following diseases

• Angina (angina pectoris) – stable and unstable As, making any kind of mishandling can result in the death of the patient so the cardiologist must stay alert at all times and know what they’re doing.

Cardiologist responsibilities are many but one of the most important one is providing the best possible care to the patients. Therefore, with respect to hold this position the cardiologist must be dedicated and willing to continue his education so he can stay current with new technologies and medicines in order to provide patients with the best options for them individually. They need to have extensive knowledge of modern equipment and medications used to treat heart diseases.

Cardiologist responsibilities begin with examining the patient and running the test needed to determine the exact cause of the problems the patient is experiencing. Some of the test the cardiologist will be responsible for running and knowing how to read accurately include the ECG or EKG, chest X-rays, ultrasound imaging and magnetic resonance imaging. They will also need to know which blood test to order to check for certain types of heart diseases.

Part of the cardiologist responsibilities comes under finding the best treatment for you. Although, every one of you are different and must be treated as individuals even when they suffer from the same medical condition. He may need to prescribe medication that can help the patient improve. On the other hand, he may need to tell the patient that surgery is the best approach to help him improve. It’s their responsibility to make this call and do what’s best for the patient.

When to call cardiologist?

Cardiac diseases show distinct characteristics like chest pain, headache etc. These symptoms are self-evaluated. If you notice any of the following symptoms, call your cardiologist:

• Breathing problems especially shortness of breath

• Excessive tiredness and shortness of breath during activity that does not get better after resting for at least 10 minutes

• Any angina type chest pain

• Irregular heart beat with or without dizziness, nausea, sweating or shortness of breath

• Nausea and vomiting that continues for more than 24 hours

• Sudden weight gain
