A good defense is the building block of any great team. The soccer tips and games help in coaching the players to work as a defensive unit. How players should organize themselves, what are their roles and responsibilities as defenders, and how they should react in different defensive situations, are looked at. With work, coaching players to control the game at the back and to start great passing moves leading to goals at the other end is done.

In soccer, learning to defend is typically much easier than learning to attack. This is because the defenders primary job is to simply dispossess the attacker. Even if the defender doesn’t gain possession of the ball, by dispossessing the attacker will allow the defenders support to close down the loose ball or cause the ball to go out of play. A key element in good defending soccer tips is remembering the defenders primary role is to break down the attack. Attackers, on the flip side, typically have to be more creative to beat defenders. Simply pressuring the attacker properly will often cause the attacker to turn over possession.

An aspect of defending soccer tips which is often over looked is being able to go on the attack once the defender has won possession. Players should be reminded the importance of attacking once possession is won.

The following is a list of key aspects of good defending. By using these standards as guide, playing tough defense can be well on the way. This list gives an edge for defense as follows: Stand the player up and don't dive in; See the player & the ball at all times. Focus on the ball when defending one vs. one; Keep the player in front of you; Bend the knees and be on the toes; Be prepared to move quickly backwards and or to the side; Listening to the teammates behind as they can give directions, such as steering the player to the touchline or inside or to make a tackle when there's an opportunity; Work to make attackers make mistake - have patience; Force the attacker into pressure; Defenders work to keep the ball in front of them; If support is behind, the defender must increase pressure and look to win the ball; Defender must close distance while ball is traveling; Defender must stay on the toes and avoid standing flat footed; Defenders must tighten up when getting close to goal so defenders can win balls when attackers makes mistakes; Play hard with intensity - don't give up even while getting beat, track back towards the goal.
