How Cellphones Create New Issues of Public Rudeness

Have you ever been in line at the super market, patiently waiting for the individual ahead of you to purchase their items while having a conversation on their cellphone? Or maybe you were a sales clerk trying to help a customer who may be able to understand the product they are searching for was in aisle 5, if they had stop talking on their bluetooth long enough to listen? Sadly, the previous scenarios happen daily.

Most of us are faced with challenges throughout the day and have become accustomed to multitasking. However, is there a chance that we may have taken it too far? It is important to remember that while our daily tasks, situations and circumstances may seem dire to us, that does not mean we have a right to inconvenience the rest of the world.

While doing things such as shopping, driving or even having an "old fashioned" face to face conversation, we should make it a point to be considerate. No one wants to have to wait for you to finish explaining the latest soap opera drama or gossip to your friends. Another issue that can become quite annoying is extensive text messaging. There is hardly anything worst than attempting to have a meeting, dinner or a date with someone who cannot stop texting the night away. Not only is it rude, you may come across selfish, uninterested, or worst.

If you are not guilty of any of the scenarios mentioned previously, perhaps the next may sound familiar. Maybe you are out with some friends and you get a phone call that you have been waiting on, instead of stepping aside and handling the call timely, you sit there and have an entire conversation. Does that ring a bell? If you have not personally experienced this, I am sure you have witnessed it.

Aside from being rude, texting or using a cellphone while driving can become very dangerous. Not letting in another driving from the merging lane would be the least of your worries. It is very important to remain aware of your surroundings at all time, whether it's walking to your car late at night, driving, or other tasks that require your full attention. Next time you are out with friends, pumping gas or grocery shopping make sure calls are placed beforehand or simply wait until afterwards.

Cellphone rudeness is a lot more common than we may think and I am sure we are guilty as charged. However with a little common courtesy and some "common sense", we can turn this issue around in no time. We all need to remember to put down our phones from time to time and connect with the real world.
