Many expanding businesses are looking for ways to improve upon the safety and assurance of Personal Proprietary Information (PPI). Most businesses deal with sensitive documentation dealing with names, addresses, date of birth (DOB), phone numbers, email addresses and social security numbers. Identity thieves are just waiting for someone to improperly dispose of this information so they can use it to their advantage. When personal documents within your business are not properly disposed of, the door is open for identity thieves to steal this information and the identity of others and ruin your company's reputation. When considering the risk of identity theft, those at potential risk might include clients, employees and other businesses your company works with on a regular basis. Some employers leave the responsibility of confidential shredding of personal documentation up to their employees. With this policy in place, the risk for loss of documentation and potential identity theft can be much higher. Distracted employees might accidentally leave sensitive documentation lying near a paper shredder with intent of continuing it later or leave them out in the open on top of their desks in the evening by accident. Loss of documentation and identity theft are not the only downsides to having employees shred their own documents. Loss of productivity and time that can be spent on other projects is another thing to consider. A reasonable and safe solution to ensure confidential paper shredding, would be to hire a paper shredding company. There are many reputable confidential shredding companies to choose from. Make a list of what you might expect from the company you wish to hire. For example, you might want to make sure that the paper shredding company screens their employees with a background check before hiring them. You might consider calling several companies to ask what their shredding protocol is. Some of them may leave locked paper bins around your business premises for your employees to drop confidential documents in, and later remove the locked paper bins from the premises and shred them in their own facility. Other companies may process the shredding of confidential documents in front of an employee that you have designated prior to leaving your business. It may also be important to you to know what they are doing with the paper once it is shredded, such as recycling. Many expanding businesses are benefiting from the services of confidential shredding. The company can save money by not having to purchase many individual industrial sized paper shredders to have around the business office. The productivity level will increase by not having the employees spending a portion of their day standing at a paper shredder disposing of sensitive documentation. Using a confidential paper shredding company can also be included as a business expense and be written off as a business expense on taxes.
