How do I control my finances in order to know how much I can spend on critical illness cover?
It is hard to keep track of our money, we know that if we are working we will receive a monthly figure from our employer for example but at the same time we also have monthly outgoings which need to be paid. At the end of every month we may or may not have money left. For some people if they see money in their account then they want to spend it, so in actual fact they could have money left to spend on such insurance to ensure they are protected if they were to suffer a critical illness. The insurance can be suited to your needs and so can be suited to your budget, the level of cover and the term of the plan can be changed in order to make sure that the insurance is affordable. In some respects it is better to have some protection than no protection even if you do only spend a small amount per month. The minimum spend for such an insurance plan can differ, however the figure is typically low in cost and so you may be able to get some level of cover. No one can help you with your monthly costs, you can look at ways of trying to reduce your monthly costs if you feel it necessary or you may feel that it is more important to try and spend a certain amount per month on life insurance and critical illness cover than it is on other monthly expenses. It may be worth trying to put a little bit of money away every month for a few months to see if you notice the money has gone and if you manage without then this money could then be used for the insurance. It may be the case that some months are harder than others as in some cases people do have unexpected bills to pay and if the policy did go live and you were on cover and you could not pay the insurance that month and you missed your direct debit payment, as long as the direct debit was not closed then the insurance provider would normally reinstate the payment request and look to take out the payment in fourteen days. You would receive written confirmation from the provider so you would be kept up to date with what was going on with your plan. The reason for this is if you did not pay the premiums for the critical illness cover then after a certain length of time the insurance provider would automatically take you off cover however this would normally be after two months but would depend on the insurance provider who you took out the plan with. Critical illness cover is an insurance which you would normally have for a number of years so you need to plan ahead to ensure that what you plan to spend now should be ok in the future. If changes needed to be made then this could be done, but how it is done will dependent on the time and the provider as providers work in different ways, however your adviser would be able to help you with this. Once the plan commences you would not need to update the insurance company of any new information for example if you were to change your job and your salary increased, all you may need to consider is getting added protection if you felt it necessary if you were to for example buy a bigger house and therefore increase your mortgage. You would always need to keep them updated with your current contact details such as address and telephone number so that they could contact you if necessary.
Often people don't even consider the financial difficulties that could occur if they were to suffer from a critical illness. Critical illness cover is a great way to ensure that you and your family don't come a financial standstill if a critical illness suddenly occurred.
