There are many ways to boost one’s confidence: buying self-help books, attending seminars and workshops, investing in plastic surgery or expensive cosmetics, enrolling in gym classes that promise to give you the kind of body you want, etc. However, if you are on a budget or do not have time to do these things on a regular basis, it’s understandable to want to find methods that produce instant results without hemorrhaging money. Surprisingly, the answers might just be found already sitting in your wardrobe and jewelry box.
Go for clothes and jewelry that reflect what you are all about:
Many make the mistake of buying jewelry and clothes for their value or because they are trendy, and not as accessories to enhance their unique personality. The result is often that, instead of enhancing self-esteem, they tend to overwhelm the person or even showcase their insecurities instead. The secret is in selecting key pieces, and not falling prey to buying and wearing everything in one go.
To know which clothes and jewelry reflect your individuality best, you have to take stock of your passions, hobbies, what motivates you, who you look up to, etc. For instance, are you in the process of working on being a rock star? Why not go for studded cuffs to match your band shirt and artfully ripped jeans? If you’re a geek, flaunt the object of your geek-hood on a t-shirt, hoodie, and other accessories. Go for pendants, earrings, watches, or cuffs that feature your favorite geekery topic, too.
Choose colors that flatter your skin:
As with makeup, selecting clothes and jewelry (including precious stones and metals) to match your skin tone is a must. Those with warm skin tones are better off with metals, gems, and stones in earthy colors, such as dark gold, bronze, and yellow gold. Light-skinned people can get away with brighter-toned jewels set in white-gold or silver. As an example: if you have naturally rosy skin, you can enhance it further with garnets, rubies, and other gems in the pink, purple, and red range. The same holds true in selecting clothes.
Select patterns that enhance your best features:
Again, selecting patterns to flatter your features and bring out your personality might prove to be tricky. It’s certainly tempting to follow the trends of the season, but blindly doing so can play up flaws. To avoid this, focus on your best features, such as your hair, your eyes, your height, etc. For instance, wear jeweled headbands, clips, and other accessories if you think your hair is your crowning glory, but stick to sedate styles for everyday wear.
Invest in a signature piece that people will remember you for:
One very good sign of confidences is knowing which timeless piece of jewelry or style of clothing you can invest in. It means you have no qualms about being associated with them, and that you have developed your own personal style. Consider a brooch, necklace, bangle, watch, or earrings that are unmistakably you. As for clothes, go for silhouettes, cuts, and colors that can be your signature get-up, but vary them a little so it won’t seem as if you’re wearing uniforms on a daily basis.
