If you are planning to have breast augmentation procedure, you will naturally be concerned about how fast you can return to work and a normal routine. There are many people who push themselves through the recovery period. However, if the work is resumed very early, then you may experience complications and the recuperation can be prolonged. According to majority of plastic surgeons, around two to four weeks should be taken off from work after breast augmentation surgery. During the recovery period, the breasts will heal, but physical activities will have to be restricted. As days pass by, you will experience a boost in your activity level. Many people feel that they are mentally ready to return to work and take up all responsibilities, but they don’t pay attention to their physical capabilities. There is a lot of difference to what a person thinks he can do and what he actually can do. It is important to understand this difference. The process of healing differs from person to person. However, various changes will be noticed. The biggest change would be noticed in the ability to move and also in the level of energy. The first few days could be tough. You will feel some amount of discomfort, tiredness and swelling. Walking will help to prevent blood clots and also improve the process of healing. Extra effort would be required while moving around. However, go slowly as the breasts are very sensitive. Any pain you experience will subside in a few days. This is also an important indicator that work can be resumed. Even though you may be able to resume work within four weeks, the activities should be kept light. This would help in reducing the swelling. The following activities should be avoided: • Stretchingrn• Liftingrn• Strenuous activitiesrn• Straining The recovery period and the process of healing can be affected by these actions. If working full time is very stressful, then a part time schedule should be considered. With this, the body will get time for adjusting to the physical exertion as well as cosmetic change. During the consultation, the surgeon would give all instructions regarding preparing for and also for amending or altering your work schedule. The initial consultation is the best time for bringing up your concerns or questions about resuming work. While a speedy recovery is something you may cherish and be looking forward to, to benefit from the good aesthetic results and to prevent any kind of complications you must closely follow the advice of your plastic surgeon.
