“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.” -Nikola Tesla
Many people argue that Nikola Tesla was ahead of his time in understanding the universe. He could see clearly what others around him could not: everything is connected through energy. Everything you can touch, see, feel, and taste. Even what we cannot see, yet we know is there. The Earth, our solar system, and every other star and planet in the universe are just energies vibrating at different frequencies. Our bodies are made up of energy, too. Each organ and each thought we have is energy. We are each our own little universes walking around vibrating on the same dimensional plane.
Music is also energy. The sounds from music travel through the air in measurable waves, called frequencies, that have an effect on us when they travel into our ears, hitting our brain. Waves that are slow affect us differently than waves that are fast, and if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Do you have a favorite song? When you turn it on, you feel warm inside, want to dance and sing along, instantly improving your mood? What about a song you really hate that feels like you’re listening to nails on a chalkboard, and actually puts you in an off mood? Well, blame the frequency. Some musicians like Bob Marley, John Lennon, and Beethoven tune their music’s frequency to a level that resonates with us as feeling good and calming. Some frequencies in music actually disrupt brainwave activity causing us to feel stressed out and disorientated.
Across time and in every single culture that has existed on this planet, we have all shared the love and connection of music. It brings people together, it’s what we all have in common. It’s used to heal broken hearts, as reminders of past memories, and even in spiritual ceremonies to strengthen our connection to God or the universe. You may ask, what is it that makes music so special to us? The answer is, it’s the variation of frequencies and how they affect us. We’re only just beginning to understand just how powerful of an effect that is.
Brainwave entrainment music
An electroencephalograph machine (EEG) was created to measure the electrical signals sent between the 100 billion neurons spread out over different regions of the brain. The rate that signals are sent out creates varying wave frequencies, which have been mapped and categorized by scientists as different states of consciousness: delta (.2 Hz-3 Hz), theta (3 Hz-8 Hz), alpha (8 Hz-12 Hz), beta (12 Hz-27 Hz), and gamma (27 Hz and up). The higher frequencies dominate when we are awake and alert, whereas the lower frequencies dominate when we are deeply relaxed or asleep.
Brainwave entrainment music is music at certain frequencies that can be used to alter your brainwave frequencies to induce a state of deep relaxation, that can be measured by an EEG. It might sound strange, or like some form of mind-control, but it is actually a simple concept that can be compared to tuning forks. If you are holding two tuning forks of the same pitch, and strike one and hold it close to the other, they will both vibrate at the same frequency. The same is with brainwaves and soundwaves. It is a technique commonly used in meditation and hypnosis in order to take your mind into a different state of consciousness by altering the dominant frequency of your brain.
The two types of brainwave entrainment are binaural beats and isochronic tones. Binaural beats are best used when wearing headphones because they create an effect by playing two tones of slightly different frequencies separately into each ear. For example, if you listen to a frequency of 200 Hz in one ear, and 210 Hz in the other, your brain will detect a fluctuation of 10 Hz, which will induce your brain into the alpha state. Isochronic tones differ from binaural beats because they do not need to be listened to with headphones at all. They are simply repetitive beats that encourage the brain to synchronize with the frequency of the tones. However, the effect they have on the brain is similar to binaural beats because they are used to bring your mind into a state of deep relaxation.
The Solfeggio frequencies
If you are familiar with “do, re, me, fa, so, la, ti”, you are familiar with the Solfeggio frequencies. The origin of this ancient musical scale can be traced back to a hymn to John the Baptist, though then it was known as “ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la”. The idea behind this scale is that each tone holds a specific frequency that brings balance and harmony to your body in different ways. This idea was first discovered in the 1970’s by Dr. Joseph Puleo by using the Pythagorean method of numeral reduction in the Book of Numbers, Chapter 7, Verses 12-83. He, among other professionals, concluded these tones can be described as this:
UT – 396 Hz – turning grief into joy, liberating guilt & fearr
RE – 417 Hz – undoing situations & facilitating changer
MI – 528 Hz – transformation & miracles, repairing DNA
FA – 639 Hz – relationship, connecting with spiritual familyr
SOL – 741 Hz – expression/solutions, cleaning & solvingr
LA – 852 Hz – returning to spiritual order
The Solfeggio scale is hardly used in music we hear in popular music today. However, there are those that believe that this scale is an ancient key passed down to us that unlocks a connection to the Divine.
The magical Hertz tuning number
Bach, Mozart, and Chopin all had something in common, besides the ability to create beautiful music. They all created their music to the same vibrational frequency of 432 Hz. This was the standard for all classical music of the time before it changed to 440 Hz. However, there are some artists that continue to use 432 Hz because this is the frequency that is most in harmony with human physiology. It is also known as Earth’s frequency and is the most mathematically consistent with the frequencies found in nature. When listening to music of 432 Hz, one feels at peace, warm, and relaxed when compared to music played at 440 Hz. It also provides better sound quality, and is “easier on the ears”.
Music created at 432 Hz can be traced back to ancient times. Orpheus, the Greek Eleusinian god of music, death/rebirth, keeper of the Ambrosia, and music of transformation, used instruments tuned at 432 Hz. Instruments unearthed from Ancient Egypt had all been tuned to this frequency as well. In Buddhism or Hindu chakra beliefs, 432 Hz is associated with the Heart Chakra, which is the energy center in the body representing love and compassion.
Although the standard for musical tone is 440 Hz, most people prefer to listen to 432 Hz because of the healing effects it has on our bodies.
440 Hz is a frequency that is not found anywhere in nature and does not resonate with the human body. It actually stifles creativity and dulls the emotions. The reasoning behind the change in the standard is controversial, some saying certain powerful groups use this music as a means to control and dominate the masses. However, if you do not like the idea of listening to music at 440 Hz, there are applications you can use to change the frequency to 432 Hz, or just Google artists that continue to use the old standard.
Frequencies used for healing the body
According to Neuro-Linguistic Programming, the auditory modality is one of three primary modes of inner communication. Music, an auditory phenomenon, created at varying frequencies has been shown to heal your mind and spirit. But, what about your body? If vibrational frequencies can be used to alter your consciousness and affect brainwave activity, what else can they do to you?
Professional researchers have turned to sound frequency as a way to heal the body and relieve pain, rather than having to rely on pain medications. One study that was published, tested the effects of low-frequency sound stimulation (LFSS) on nine middle-aged women who had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia for a median of 5 and a half years. They were administered sound treatments of 40 Hz for 23 minutes, twice a week, for 5 weeks. Results concluded that their sleep improved by 90%, their overall fibromyalgia status improved by 81%, their pain index improved by 49.1%, time spent sitting or standing increased significantly, cervical muscle range of motion increased from 25% to 75%, and muscle tone changed from hypertonic to normal. What’s even more exciting, is that medication dose was reduced in 73.68% of patients and completely discontinued in 23.62%. Further trials have been called for, as the results were greatly significant and promising.
There have also been claims that sound frequencies called Rife frequencies can heal body inflammation and even diseases like cancer when listened to.
As you can probably see, Nikola Tesla was very much right when he said that in order to understand the universe, we must first understand energy, frequency, and vibration. We are indeed each our own little universes walking around. So, in order to also understand ourselves, we must first understand energy, frequency, and vibration.
Albert Einstein stated: “Conce
ing matter, we have been all wrong. What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses. There is no matter.”
