Hypnosis is a relaxed state much like relaxation or meditation, but deeper. When in a hypnotic state you are still able to hear and make choices, but your subconscious is able to engage and be influenced. Hypnosis can be done alone; like self-hypnosis or by a health care provider; like a psychologist or hypnotherapist.

Most often a patient seeks out hypnotherapy because they have a bad habit they want to break, they want to deal with pain management, or work on recovery from an illness. The patient is put into a relaxed state and guided through images of themselves in another place or time. Through this process the therapist is able to guide the patient into seeing healthy activities taking place.

The goal in a hypnosis session is to quiet down your thinking self; which will allow for your subconscious to come through more clearly. When you learn to communicate with your subconscious it is easier to make change in behavior. The subconscious works best with vivid images, scenery, and clear language and a good hypnotherapist will be a master at weaving these things together for the wellness of their patients.

Modern science does not quite have an understanding of how hypnosis works, but they do have proof that it does work. It is believed that the subconscious hold clues to deep buried beliefs that might be stopping us from health and wholeness; through communication with the subconscious these clues can be uncovered and worked with. Once people discover why they are experience blocks or illness in their life it is easier to work past it.

Often people express a fear around hypnosis because they worry the hypnotherapist will be able to control them and have them do something against their will, but this is just a myth. Under hypnosis you would not do anything that you wouldn’t do in waking life. Patients undergoing hypnosis remain aware throughout the entire treatment. Not to mention that a certified hypnotherapist takes an oath just a medical doctor; which prevent them from doing harm.
