It would be certainly unfair if that was really the case. However Nature is always just and fair; it never makes one suffer on account (karmic) of others.
Everything that comes to us is our own doing, good or bad.When asked to Param Pujya Dadashri, “Can a person be punished or held liable for others’ mistakes?” he replied, “No, no one else can be blamed. It is because of your own fault only. The fault is of the sufferer.”
Everything around us is happening based on the unfolding of our past karma. No matter what good or bad happens in our life, it is the consequence of our own karma; there is nothing else beside this.
“One binds karma by seeing faults in others and becomes free from his karma by seeing his own faults” – this is the principle of karma!
Therefore, Dadashri cautions us, “Never look at the other person’s faults. When you do this, you are spoiling your own life. Rather, look at your own faults only. Every event and circumstance is the fruit of your own karma, so is there anything left to be said then? People go around accusing, criticizing and finding fault with each other. This is what perpetuates vengeance, and vengeance is the reason why this world exists.”
This means the suffering that we experience in our life is the result of the demerit karma that we ourselves have committed in our past life; it is our own mistake! When you have the understanding that what you experience is because of your own karma, your ancestors will automatically be seen as faultless by you. Our good opinion and feelings for our ancestors shall bind merit karma and through our negative opinions and feelings for them, we shall further bind demerit karma and thereby increase our own suffering.
When we keep remembering someone having negative thoughts for them, we must do pratikraman i.e. ask for forgiveness in the direct presence of the Lord (Soul) within that person.
If we want to blame anyone in this world, it is our own accounts (karmic) that are coming back to us. The consequences of our own mistakes are being brought to us through a natural process by Nature.
Every human being has made countless mistakes in countless lives. To destroy our mistake, first and foremost, it is important that we accept and regard it as a mistake. We cannot go on protecting it by passing the blame on others. This is the key Gnani, the Enlightened One, gives us to solve all our problems. It can open up the most difficult of the locks. Once we begin to recognize our mistakes; they will be destroyed.
By seeing the faults in our ancestors, we weaken the power to see our own faults. rnWhen a mistake happens by you and you don’t like it, it means you’ve seen your own fault. And when you accept that it is the unfolding of your karma only and that your ancestors are not at all at fault, that’s called awareness. Seeing ancestors at fault means that you have not seen them as the pure Soul. When we see the pure Soul (God) in the other person, then we shall not see any fault in them. True pratikraman is done only when we see our own faults and see everyone in our home as flawless.
We want to go upto the point where the entire world appears flawless to us. rnSo, lets maintain this awareness at every step in our daily life. The inner components of anger, pride, attachment and greed within us will continue to create new karmic accounts. And it is against these very components that we have to do pratikraman immediately and erase everything. We cannot afford to let this business of piling up new karma continue, isn’t it?
The ego is the one who always sees faults of others. If you look further closely, it is your intellect that traps you and shows you faults in others, although really no one is at fault in this world. It is the intellect that raises the question when a person who has led an exemplary life is befallen with a great misfortune. Hence, we have to keep asking for forgiveness the whole daylong. Let’s get into the habit of doing this.
And for how long should one continue doing pratikraman? For as long as one has negative feelings towards that person (your ancestors) or as long as you keep remembering that person (your ancestors). Mistakes are like an onion that has many layers. And as we begin to see our faults, these layers will be shed gradually. So these sticky mistakes will require a lot of pratikraman.
Conclusion:rnRest assured, you will never have to suffer due to bad karma caused by negative deeds committed by anyone else but you. Our life is the end result of our own good and bad karma, or in other words our own merit and demerit karma. Important is our ability to remain neutral (without attachment or hatred) while they unfold and keep doing pratikraman.
Earlier, our mistakes just increased and weighed us down. But now, through pratikraman, these mistakes begin to reduce. Pratikraman is a tried and tested spiritual science, so give it a go and see the difference it makes in your life.
There are warehouses of countless faults within any given person. Our liberation is at hand when we begin to see our own faults, moment to moment. We have carried this baggage of faults for ages without questioning it ever. But now let’s meet Gnani, the Enlightened One, and attain Self-Realization from Him. This shall help us begin to see our faults very easily and correctly.
