Introduction

The skills learnt make a better individual, not just one who knows how to punch and kick.

These are martial arts that specialize on the whole family including children.

Rather than just violent fighting, they teach methods of self defense, physical fitness and optimal health.

To grow the self esteem of learners is their principle objective.

Shortly after beginning lessons on martial arts at Deer park, there is an overall feeling of better focus, refreshed stamina and physical strength. One begins to concentrate better and develops greater self confidence and self respect and discipline. Who would not want all these attributes and more espeially for their children?

The age range is fascinating, such a wide bracket of between three years and eighty years. You read right, 80 years! Senile tendencies aside, arthritic changes aside, this is an institution with much to offer a grandparent and grandchild inclusively.

Lesons offered include:

- Kendo
- Taekwondo
- Judo
- Karate
- Tai chi
- Kungfu
- Jeet Kune Do
- Jujitsu
- Aikido

No matter what style attracts the student or whether they gain prowess, the institution emphasises on mutual respect among learners, mutual support and encuragement There is need to celebrate the succesful strides made by fellow learners.

These attributes are crucial with regards to teaching children and their extended families as there is no room for competition. Rather, there's room to improve each other.

Benefits for children

Of note is that emphasis is placed on developing good behavior as well as fitness (physical) especially in the current world where children tend to be slothful.

This is what they learn through Deer Park martial arts training:

- Self discipline and strong work ethic
- Self esteem and respect
- Patience and focus
- Leadership and goal setting
- Confidence in self.
- Good manners
- Concentration and awareness of strangers
- Defending oneself mentally
- Reacting to bullies
- Conflict avoidance amd positive attitude
- Adult respect.
- How to say no to peer pressure and use of recreational drugs

Benefits for adults

With adults, the anticipated benefits of martial arts are:

- Improvement in muscular tone and thereby greater flexibility and better approach to self defense.
- Cardiovascular fitness achieved with a resultant energetic body.
- Stress is reduced and overall satisfaction (emotional) is achieved.

Resolution of conflicts preceeds any self defense as emphasised by instructors.

And just like children they also benefit from character development as listed above.

When the whole family practices and trains at Deerpark schools of martial arts, they have fun with no competition. Since competition does not improve character but rather reveals it.

Additionally, virtues learnt at school are reinforced at home.
