The day your son or daughter was born was likely one of the happiest days of your life! You have never felt a connection so strong to a human as you do with your child. Use the parenting tips below to keep that connection strong and thriving so your relationship with your child blossoms! Help the child to develop routines by establishing a schedule very early. If you give them specific times for different events they will begin to naturally adjust to these times. This will help to make shower, eating and bedtimes much easier. The child will also feel more naturally secure. Make sure you have an appropriate first aid kit in your home. Children suffer a variety of different injuries and you want to make sure you are prepared for them. In your first aid kit, make sure to include, band aids, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, cotton swabs, bacitracin ointment, and calamine lotion. One question that many parents have with a new child is how to know when their child is ready to be potty trained. In order to use a toilet, the child must already have certain skills. For example, they need to be able to take their clothes off. They must also be able to exert a certain amount of control over their bladder and bowel movement. Finally, the child should be able to communicate in case there are problems. If the child is able to do all of these things, the best way to start is to model the appropriate actions for the child and practice with them. A great parenting tip is to take time out of your busy schedule to spend with your child. Don't get too caught up in your work or other things. Your child deserves attention and you should set aside enough time to spend with them from time to time. When you are going to a place where there will be large number of people, dress your children in colorful clothing that will be distinctive from a distance. You might want to consider matching clothing for the adults in your party. It will help prevent you and your children becoming separated in a crowd. If you are having difficulty giving your toddler their medicine, try mixing it with chocolate syrup. This will make your child want to take their medicine instead of putting up a fight. You can also try placing OTC medications in the refrigerator. Your toddler will have a hard time distinguishing the taste of the cold liquid, making them more likely to take it without fussing. When a family pet dies, it is important that you sit your child down and explain what happened. Although your child will be upset, it is better to be honest with them about the pet's death so they are prepared for getting another pet and this pet eventually passes away. When you say you're going to do something, like a punishment, do NOT waiver. The second you give in and revoke a punishment your child will know you can be broken. If you stick to what you say then your warnings will be heeded as the child will know you go through with your word. If you are exhausted trying to care for your newborn at night, put her rash creme on her diaper before you go to sleep in the evening. This will save you time during late night feedings, because you will be able to put your baby's diaper on without worrying about putting the paste on her bottom first. Having a strong, meaningful relationship with your child when they are young is so important and it will positively effect them once they are teenagers and less likely to want to open up. Use the tips below to start that relationship or strengthen it. Remember, discipline is part of parenting and can actually strengthen your relationship with your child in the long run.
