How To Be Effective In Your Work: Self-Questionnaire To Answer Your Need

Bosses are always demanding and oftentimes inhuman. Their opinions are always right even if not. They don’t think twice when asking you to do things. And they see you as nothing but a piece of machine that is pushed-button. And you take all these things into a little demon at the back of your mind that dictates you to ruin this person. It becomes your driving force to make up false stories around your company that your boss is evil. You created a monster in your boss and every one sees what you relate. After 30 years of hard work you end up wondering why you’re still in the same level of position while your batch mates have earned higher offices or positions. Try to reflect or ask yourself with these questions and evaluate where you went wrong.

Am I stupid? Of course you’re not. In the first place you wouldn’t be accepted in your job if you are unintelligent. Every person is born with intellect and we vary the way we use it. Try to check your outputs if oftentimes it comes back to you again and again for corrections on error. Maybe you have intentionally failed to see these errors to get back at your boss. It explains every thing but not stupidity. It’s plain pride.

Did I fail to communicate with my boss? Maybe you talk with your boss every day but it all relates to work. Sometimes we forgot that our bosses are human being also. They maybe authoritarian but that’s the call of their position. They are as human and flesh like us. They feel the way we feel. If you have personal problems like family fights or financial problem that gets between your jobs, try to talk this to your boss. Initially of course you wouldn’t like their reaction. For sure they will question you whether you are still fit for the job, but when you explain your side that you want to straight things up they will understand.

Is my attendance perfect? There’s no such thing as perfect. But if every day of your office work you are late, you can’t expect that your evaluation will be perfect. Try to be punctual and always remember that all companies expect their employees to be punctual in work.

Do I know the name of my boss’ wife/husband and children? You may think that it’s none of your business but you’re wrong. Family is the reason why your boss endures working. There’s no harm in asking your boss about his family. For sure he loves to relate his life to you as well. Like you, he needs a break from monotonous work also and the topic that would inspire him would be about his family.

Is a work deadline a dead line? When you think that you are not obligated to meet the deadline, think twice. This is an even rule for workers that in every input there must be a dead line for outputs. Have you ever beat a dead line for reports or outputs? If not, then try to do it next time. Efficiency in work is a positive attitude that all employers are looking for in an employee. You will never be effective in work if you aren’t efficient.

Have I tried to ask for a promotion? Employees always complain that their salary is low that’s why they perform low also. Or grumble of not being promoted after years of service. The question, have you even tried to ask your boss of these things? If not, then why are you complaining? Who will hear your whines and problems? Your officemate or the janitor who mops your floor? Try asking for these things in a good nature so that your boss will know that you are interested as well. He will realize that you are a progressive person and know how to be successful.
Remember that your boss is an employee also of the company. His actions are eminent of the pressure and high expectation of the company. And likewise he is expecting from you as well to meet his needs for work. You can be successful in your job if you try to put yourself on your boss’ shoes. And if you feel what he feels in work, for sure you have more than what his success has.
