If your physical activity requires running, then one thing that you should take into consideration is coming to be faster. coming to be faster will make you a lot more troublesome to defend, and you will be able to put up more points on the board for your group. Being fast and jumping very high, are not all about genetics. This is one of the myths out there about improving athletic performance. There are far to many athletes that have been told this, especially at young ages and give up on their dreams because of it. You can run faster and improve your jumping abilities through correct training, and eating right.
When it comes to running faster and jumping higher what exactly is necessary? Firstly, sprinting is a great way to develop your quickness and speed. Keep these sprints under 10 seconds, and make sure you're doing these as hard as possible. Over the course of time you will come to be faster. As long as you have the space necessary, you can work on sprinting. Keep in mind to train as fast and as hard as you can. If you do not do this, then you will only be reducing your increases.
The reason why you will jump higher when you're developing your speed is because you're training the fast twitch muscle fibers which are used both in jumping and running fast. The workouts that you will undergo will develop these muscles.
Not only do you have fast twitch muscle fibers, but you also have slow twitch fibers inside your body. The fibers for endurance are your slow fibers, which provide energy and contractions over a long period of time. The fast fibers on the other hand, are the most common fibers in your body. Developing these is how you develop explosiveness. These muscles make their contractions very quickly, and they are also bigger than slow twitch muscle fibers to support these explosive contractions.
To reach your genetic potential, then you want to improve your fast twitch fibers in other ways besides sprinting. Working on your strength and your quickness will help you develop your power. So you want to develop strong muscles by doing weight training, such as deadlifts, squats, toe raises, etc. Then you can develop your muscle quickness by using plyometric exercises.
Don't forget that strength is the first part of it. You need to keep the weight heavy enough so that you can keep your reps around the 8 to 10 mark. Your last rep should be challenging. Over time your strength will go up.
The next part is improving your quickness. Plyometrics will help you do this. You need to increase the quickness at which your muscles can produce the strength that you've gained from weight training. Jump Squats, Rim Jumps, Depth Jumps, etc are some exercises that you can do to improve your muscle quickness. Keep in mind that you should be properly warmed up, and well stretched before doing these exercises. Also make sure you have the proper rest as well as nutrition for proper recovery from these exercises.
