How to Become New York Security Guards
In the state of New York, security guards are required to go through proper registration and training as per the Security Guard Act of 1992. The Division of Criminal Justice Services, Office of Public Safety provides administrative oversight for mandated security training. The New York State Department of State, Division of Licensing Services has responsibility for the registration of all security guards.
The new york security guards who want an armed guard license need to have a valid New York State pistol license pursuant to Penal Law 400.00. They are also required to complete a Firearms Training Course for Security Guards before they apply for a Special Armed Guard Registration Card. Every year after they get their license, they will need to complete an additional 8 hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Armed Security Guards.
The Employee Statement and Security Guard Application that is provided by the New York Department of State needs to completed. It is required to obtain a New York security guard license. You will need to provide your Social Security number, birth date, employment history, personal contact information and answers to a criminal background check to fill out the forms. There is a Notice of Employment section that will have to be filled out by your employers if you already have one.
