Social media is everywhere and learning how to best use it will almost definitely improve your company’s sales. By learning how to progress to the next level, you will likely be able to measure your success in this department by monitoring the profits and losses you see in this area.
It seems like almost everyone today uses social media in some capacity. Whether it is updating your Twitter account or Facebook status to let your friends know how you are doing, or you use social media to help your small business grow, social media has become an integral part of our lives. There are some optimal strategies to use, however, especially if you are using social media for business purposes. This plays such a large role in success today that if you simply ignore social media, you will miss the opportunity to connect with hundreds of thousands of potential customers. This is something that you will definitely want to avoid. Because so many of your customers already use social media, you have a built in audience for your products already, so you will want to get the most potential out of this as possible.
Of course, your end goal is to make a sale, but this is not where you should primarily focus your attention. Start by simply gaining an audience. Prompting to make the sale should not be your first contact with your potential customers. Gain their trust first, and work upward from there. Once you have an audience with a degree of investment in your company—such as following your blog or YouTube channel, for example—you can move to the next steps.
Creating social media activity is important, but you will eventually need to go beyond this point. You want your potential customers to engage with you and others that use your sites. This can be something as simple as leaving a response on a blog entry or entering a contest.
Once you get customers engaged, you need to have them become an advocate of you and your products. This includes having them recommend your product to others with similar needs or interests. Once they begin engaging with you, this is the next logical step. Having your customers recommend and advocate your products will help spread your business by word of mouth. This is far more powerful than any advertisement that you can dream up. People trust their friends’ opinions when it comes to buying a product, so getting to this point is a very important part of growing your business.
Finally, you want to get a return on your investment. This, of course, means increasing sales numbers in a manner that suggests your social media efforts wear worth your time, energy, and money. Word of mouth advertising helps here and is very difficult to measure, but if you are successful in reaching this point, you will probably see a jump in your sales numbers a short while after you begin your social media campaign. Measuring your productivity in this area is important because it will let you see exactly what kind of progress you are making through your social media usage.
Remember, social media is a hot new trend and many companies are just starting to realize its usefulness. Rather than being left behind, learn how to properly use social media to improve your sales.
